Only after two years, the manufacturer offered a version with a 2.4-liter gasoline "four". This was largely due to a significant increase in not only the size but also the weight of the crossover, which became 225 kg heavier. The new V6 was 55 hp more powerful than its previous version, which practically did not affect the car's dynamics. The 4-cylinder version also had similar characteristics, which also received an engine with an increased working volume of up to 2.7 liters and a power of 190 hp. In 2010, the "Highlander" underwent a modernization, in which its exterior, especially in the front part, was significantly changed. Narrowed headlights and a new radiator grille appeared, and in the salon, there was a different front panel with a black glossy coating.

The debut of the car of the third iteration took place in the spring of 2013. The design of the crossover was again changed, which acquired a more angular appearance. The difference in the salon was the appearance of the 8th seat, which was due to the use of a new platform that significantly increased the wheelbase and width of the car. In addition, in the standard and additional equipment, a large number of electronic systems appeared, ensuring safety and comfort. The engine range still consisted of two engines from the previous model - an in-line "four" with a volume of 2.7 liters and a V6 with a volume of 3.5 liters. At the same time, as part of the modernization, an updated gasoline V6 appeared, which acquired direct injection.

In 2019, the manufacturer presented a crossover of the fourth generation. In addition to the exterior, it changed the platform, which became modular. At the same time, the concept of the car was preserved. It still represented a mid-size station wagon with increased passability, oriented primarily for use on paved roads. A fundamental difference from the predecessor in the technical plan was a change in the engine range, in which turbocharged gasoline engines appeared, in particular, a new in-line "four" S20A with a volume of 2 liters, to which in 2022 added T24A with a volume of 2.4 liters. At the same time, in the first years of release, modifications with V6 were not offered at all, however, the manufacturer had to concede to buyers already in 2020, offering them a crossover with a modernized 6-cylinder engine with a volume of 3.5 liters. In addition, it was available with a "hybrid" power plant, consisting of a gasoline engine with a volume of 2.5 liters, operating according to the Atkins principle in a pair with two synchronous electric motors with a power of 54 hp.
