The car significantly increased in size, essentially to the maximum within the framework of the Japanese legislation in force at that time. As a result, the minivan received one of the largest salons in its class. The car stood out with a completely revised design, which, however, retained its neutrality, due to the concept of the model, intended for the widest possible range of buyers. The "base" remained a 2-liter inline-four gasoline engine, developing 152 horsepower and working in tandem with a belt-driven variator. An alternative to it was a hybrid power plant with a 1.8-liter gasoline engine operating according to the Atkinson cycle, with a power of 99 horsepower. An 82-horsepower electric motor and a traction battery located under the front seats were added to it. This version had only front-wheel drive, in contrast to the "gasoline" versions, for which a multi-disc clutch connecting the rear wheels was offered for an additional fee.

The Fourth Generation

In 2022, the Japanese brand introduced the fourth-generation minivan. The car "moved" to a new modular GA-C platform, one of the variants of the global TNGA "cart". The minivan retained its previous layout, but at the same time became significantly wider and higher, since in the previous generation the car had already "reached" the limits of Japanese legislation in terms of length and wheelbase. Additionally, to maximize the increase in internal space, the body sides are arranged almost vertically, and the new platform provided a much more compact arrangement of components. As a result, the distance between the roof pillars at the level of the passengers' shoulders reached 1295 mm, and the height - 1405 mm. A hidden luggage compartment with a capacity of 104 liters appeared in the rear overhang. Depending on the version, the car's salon has a 7- or 8-seat layout. In the first case, the second row contains two separate seats, for which heating, footrests, and foldable tables are available in the list of additional equipment. The 8-seat version implies the use of a solid bench with a backrest split in a 60/40 ratio. In both cases, the second row has longitudinal adjustment, allowing the second row to be shifted by more than 70 cm. The "third row" always accommodates three passengers and, according to the "firm's" tradition, folds by tilting the "halves" to the vertical body walls.

The new platform has significantly expanded the list of available electronic systems and components. First of all, this is a multimedia system with an 8 or 10.5-inch screen and a Wi-Fi router, as well as the function of updating from the "cloud", from where maps for the navigation system are also downloaded. No less important innovation was the appearance of the complex of electronic assistants Toyota Safety Sense, which, in addition to the ability of automatic braking and lane keeping, can block the opening of sliding doors when another car approaches. The list of equipment includes the Advanced Drive system, which, at a speed of up to 40 km/h, performs the function of an autopilot, controlling the minivan in traffic jams.

In the engine range, the "base" is still the "atmospheric" 2-liter engine, but already from the new Dynamic Force family, developing 170 horsepower and 202 Nm of torque. It works in tandem with another novelty - the Direct Shift variator, whose first gear is mechanical. "By default", front-wheel drive is available, however, for an additional fee, a multi-disc clutch connecting the rear wheels is offered. As an alternative, as before, a version with a hybrid power plant is offered, the basis of which is the 1.8-liter gasoline engine from the predecessor. However, the electric motor on the front axle has become slightly more powerful, developing 95 horsepower and 185 Nm. And for an additional fee, the E-Four all-wheel-drive system becomes relevant, adding another electric motor with a power of 41 horsepower and 84 Nm, rotating the rear wheels.
