The Toyota Crown Kluger debuted in the Japanese brand's production lineup in 2021. The vehicle is one of the versions of the mid-size crossover Highlander of the fourth generation. The model is produced in China at a joint venture with FAW, being intended for the domestic market of this country.

Simultaneously with this model, another version of the Highlander of the fourth generation debuted in China under its original name, but produced by a joint venture with GAC. To avoid looking identical, the modification produced by FAW was based on the version of the crossover for the North American market with the so-called "sport package" XSE. Externally, such a car is distinguished by a changed design of the front part, bumpers of a more aggressive appearance. A stylized crown is used as a logo, a hallmark of all models with the word Crown in the name. Technically, both crossovers turned out to be identical to each other, but not to the North American version. Under the hood is a hybrid power plant consisting of a 2.5-liter inline "four" gasoline engine and one electric motor. The total power is 192 hp. "By default" the car in the base version has front-wheel drive only, but for an extra charge, an all-wheel drive system appears, implemented through the installation of an additional electric motor on the rear axle. The traction battery located under the rear seats serves as a power source for it.

Like the "original" crossover, the car already offers a wide range of equipment in the base version, including 3-zone climate control, electric seat adjustments for the driver, LED headlights, a multimedia system with an 8-inch screen, as well as a set of electronic assistants Safety Sense 2.0 with adaptive "cruise", automatic braking system and lane keeping. 18- and 20-inch wheels are standard for this model.
