In 1989, a new generation appeared, the design of which was formed by more rounded and smooth shapes. According to the manufacturer, this design solution increases the strength of the structure while maintaining its rigidity. The equipment of the model became more extensive. The sixth generation appeared in 1993. The manufacturer continued to develop the theme of rounded shapes, improving the aerodynamics of the body. The exterior became even more sporty and stylish. The power units were represented by 1.8 and 2.2-liter engines.

The seventh modification, which began its existence in 1999, became the last for the model. The car received a "youthful" appearance, which was supposed to be competitive with the Honda Civic and Acura Integra. The engines were represented by two options: 1ZZ-FE with 143 horsepower and 2ZZ-GE with 192 horsepower, both with a capacity of 1.8 liters. Due to a decline in sales, the company announced the termination of the model's production in 2004, which managed to stay on the assembly line for 36 years.
