The Toyota GR Corolla made its debut in 2022. The vehicle is a "high-performance" modification of the namesake model, the first since 2006, when the Corolla with a supercharged 1.8-liter engine producing 224 horsepower was discontinued. The power unit is combined with a 6-speed manual transmission iMT with a function of aligning the crankshaft revolutions during gear shifts. This is due exclusively to the preferences of North American buyers. The GR-Four all-wheel drive system is also shared with the "Yaris". It is characterized by the operation of the rear axle connection clutch with pre-tensioning, and there is an opportunity to change it, selecting one of three presets, which allows 40, 50, or 70% of the torque to be transmitted backwards. To this can be added the self-locking Torsen differentials, which are available in the Performance package.

The chassis has retained the layout of the standard Corolla, but in a modified version with the use of other elastic elements. The front track has been widened by 60 mm, and the rear track has been widened by 85 mm. The brake mechanisms have also undergone corresponding changes. Four-piston brakes are used at the front, and two-piston brakes are used at the rear. Another feature was the presence of two versions in the lineup. In addition to the base Core, the Circuit Edition is offered, which is only available in gray and also features an enlarged spoiler on the rear door and a shift knob with the signature of the Toyota chief. The standard equipment offers a manual parking brake with a cable drive, a 12.3-inch diagonal instrument panel display, heated steering wheel and front seats, 2-zone climate control, and a complex of electronic driver assistance systems Safety Sense.

Updated Version

In 2024, the Japanese brand showed an updated version of the vehicle. The key innovation was the appearance of a version with an 8-speed automatic transmission from Aisin with "paddle" gearshifts on the steering wheel. In the additional options, there is an extra radiator for its cooling. The presence of an automatic transmission is also accompanied by the ability to choose from four "driving" modes - Eco, Normal, Sport, and Custom, as well as the Launch Control function.
