Шины на Toyota Matrix (Тоуота)

The compact hatchback Toyota Matrix debuted in the production lineup of the Japanese brand in 2003. The car was designed primarily for the North American market and developed in conjunction with GM Corporation. The latter offered the same model, but under its own brand and name - Pontiac Vibe. The key difference from most European "classmates" was that it was located at the intersection of three classes at once - hatchbacks, minivans, and crossovers, standing out with a high roof line, a transformable salon, and a wide range of options. Further, the model became popular enough to survive a change of generation, preserving its key advantage - a combination of small dimensions, practicality, and reliability.

First Generation: Compact Wagon with Crossover Character

The debut generation was built on the Toyota MC platform, sharing it with the ninth-generation Corolla. Structurally, the car represented a front-wheel drive hatchback with a transversely mounted engine and an independent front suspension of the McPherson type. At the rear, a semi-dependent torsion beam was applied - a simple but reliable and inexpensive solution to maintain.

The engine range included gasoline four-cylinder units of the ZZ series. The base engine was the 1.8 1ZZ-FE, with a power of 130 horsepower, which was distinguished by its economy and durability. For more dynamic versions, a 2ZZ-GE engine with a VVTL-i phase change system was offered, developing up to 180 horsepower. This engine allowed the car to accelerate significantly faster than most of its classmates. Depending on the equipment option, the power units were combined with a 5-speed manual transmission or a 4-range "automatic". For some modifications, an all-wheel drive system was available.

The interior was distinguished by an unusual practicality for the class. The rear seats folded into a flat floor, and the front passenger seat could be folded forward, turning the salon into a long cargo space. Such a solution made the model convenient for transporting sports equipment, bicycles, or bulky items. Compared to competitors like the Honda Civic or Mazda 3 of that period, the "Matrix" offered a higher body and greater practicality reserve. It conceded to some competitors in handling, but won in versatility and reliability of the design.

Second Generation: Evolution of the Platform and Expansion of Equipment

In 2009, the second generation was introduced, which preserved the concept but received a more modern platform, also unified with the Corolla, but already of the next, tenth generation. The body became more rigid, and the design more aggressive thanks to a large radiator grille and expanded wheel arches.

The technical part also underwent changes. The base engine was a modernized 1.8-liter unit of the 2ZR-FE series, with a power of 132 horsepower. In more expensive versions, a 2.4-liter engine 2AZ-FE was installed, developing 158 horsepower. Such an engine significantly improved the acceleration dynamics, especially when combined with a manual transmission. In addition to the traditional mechanical transmission, there was an opportunity to install a variator CVT, which ensured a smooth ride and reduced fuel consumption. All-wheel drive was preserved, which remained a rarity among compact cars of this segment.

The equipment became richer: stability systems, airbags throughout the body, advanced audio systems, climate control, and multimedia functions appeared. In expensive trim levels, a panoramic glass roof, sports body kit, and larger wheels were offered. Against the background of competitors like the Subaru Impreza or Volkswagen Golf, the Matrix of the second generation stood out with a combination of reliable atmospheric engines, high practicality of the salon, and relatively low cost of ownership. The model did not strive to compete in premium or driver settings, making a bet on versatility and durability.

For this car, wheels with a landing diameter of 16, 17, and 18 inches are used, and the standard tire sizes include options 205/55 R16, 215/45 R17, and 225/40 R18. Such parameters provide a balance of comfort, stability, and economy, so when choosing new tires, it is essential to consider the factory recommendations.
