Toyota 4Runner is a versatile off-road vehicle that was introduced by the Japanese manufacturer back in 1984. The model managed not only to stay on the assembly line for several decades, but also became a support for the company. Beginning

In 1984, the company introduced its next creation, which was based on the platform of the "Hilux" pickup truck. Initially, a 2.4-liter carburetor engine was installed on the car, which was replaced in 1985 with an analog with electronic fuel injection. A year later, the manufacturer again modernized the off-road vehicle, which received an independent suspension and a widened wheelbase. This made it possible to install a more powerful 3-liter V6 engine. Notably, part of the cabin was made of fiberglass.

In 1989, the production of a new generation was established, which differed significantly from its predecessor. Now all body elements were made of steel, and a 4-door model appeared (although a two-door modification was also released). The rear suspension was completely updated, although the model was still based on the frame platform from the "Hilux". The engines also migrated from the "donor". They were represented in Europe by 2 and 2.4-liter units.

Development

In 1995, a completely new off-road vehicle appeared, built on an original platform. The car was increased in size, which positively affected the interior space. Among the innovations, it is worth noting the presence of an interaxle differential, which increased the car's passability on rough terrain. Under the hood, two engines with a capacity of 2.7 and 3.4 liters were hidden, producing 150 and 183 horsepower, respectively.

The fourth generation, which was based on the platform of the "Land Cruiser Prado 120", saw the light in 2002. In fact, this was a simplified "Prado" model, maximally adapted for off-road driving. The car was equipped with permanent and connectable all-wheel drive, had a richly equipped interior, which made it attractive to lovers of active recreation. Under the hood, a 4-liter V6 and a 4.7-liter V8 were installed. Thanks to these "giants", the dynamic characteristics of the off-road vehicle increased significantly.

The fifth generation, which started in 2009, was based on the platform of the "FJ Cruiser". The car has again changed, received many electronic "assistants" that made its operation more comfortable.
