The mid-size Toyota Harrier crossover has been in production since December 1997. In the spring of the following year, the Japanese brand introduced an export version of the car, called the Lexus RX. However, in terms of equipment, these models in their "basic" trim levels significantly inferior to the Harrier, which already in the standard equipment had a leather interior, and its composition also included a steering column with electric height and reach adjustments, a climate control system with sensor control through "strips" on the center console.

The crossover of the fourth iteration appeared only in 2020. The concept of "cloning" the RAV4 was preserved in this model, which "moved" to a new modular GA-K platform. The body design style with a characteristic silhouette was preserved. The chassis layout is also taken from the RAV4, but, like its predecessor, it differs in settings, as well as the presence of the ACA system already in the standard equipment, which prevents the occurrence of front axle skidding during braking in turns by clamping the brake pads. Another change was the engine range, from which the 230-horsepower turbocharged engine was removed. In the "base" appeared a "pair" of a 2-liter 171-horsepower gasoline engine and a Direct Shift variator, where the 1st gear is "mechanical", which significantly reduces the load on the transmission components when starting and the first seconds of acceleration. Another difference is the front-wheel drive in the initial configuration. The all-wheel drive system is implemented using the Dynamic Torque Control transmission, which uses a separate clutch on each of the rear wheels, allowing the "vectorization" of traction to be implemented. The lineup still includes versions with a hybrid power unit. In the standard version, this is a combination with a 2.5-liter "atmospheric" engine with 178 horsepower and a 120-horsepower electric motor, which rotate only the front axle. In a more "advanced" version, another electric motor with 54 horsepower appears on the rear axle. And, like its predecessors, the salon has much more equipment and high-quality trim. The front seats have a lower seating position, and between them is a massive central console, and the seats themselves have integrated headrests. The designers tried to bring a bit of "sport" to the essentially family crossover. But the wheels remained 19-inch with a sufficiently high profile.
