The BMW iX3, a representative class crossover, appeared in the German brand's production line in the summer of 2020. This was preceded by a two-year cycle of showing concept cars with various engine options, which in this model is fully electric.

Initial Version

In contrast to the rest of the "German trio", BMW preferred to debut in the segment of electric crossovers with a car created on the basis of an already produced serial model. Technically, the crossover is one of the variations of the well-known X3 of the third generation of 2017. This was largely made possible by the variability of the modular CLAR platform. However, it was necessary to abandon the all-wheel drive system. All versions of this model have rear-wheel drive only, with an electric motor with an output of 286 horsepower and 400 Nm. With this power unit, the "crossover" accelerates to "hundred" in 6.8 seconds, and its maximum speed is limited to 180 km/h. In a special compartment under the floor of the cabin, there is a lithium-ion traction battery with a capacity of 80 kWh, which provides a range of up to 460 kilometers. The onboard charging device is designed to work with a direct current of up to 150 kW, which allows charging the batteries to 80% of the capacity in just 34 minutes. Due to the significantly increased mass (2185 kg), the standard equipment of the crossover included an adaptive spring suspension. Despite the presence of a sufficient number of additional components, the crossover offers a fairly large trunk - 510 liters, which is only 40 liters less than the standard X3.

As for the interior, it is maximally unified with the standard version of the crossover, except for the equipment, which turned out to be significantly wider. Already in the standard configuration, there is a "digital" instrument panel, along with LED headlights, 3-zone climate control, electric tailgate and panoramic roof.

Modified Version

The car of the next generation appeared a year after its release. The update was minor in nature, affecting primarily the external appearance of the car. It differed from the previous version with narrowed headlights, rear lights with a changed pattern, as well as an updated plastic "kit". It was part of the M-Sport package, which became part of the standard equipment of this model. The innovations in the salon were similar in scale. The design of the front console changed, largely due to the appearance of a new display of the multimedia system of the current iteration.
