The BMW X1 is attributed to the so-called "subcompact" crossovers, representing a whole line of cars of the representative class. It has been produced since 2009. Creation History

The development of the model began in 2006 after the prices for automotive fuel rose sharply, which led to a decrease in sales of a number of crossovers of the brand. The company found a solution in the form of creating another model that differed not only in its bright fuel-saving properties but also in minimized design and serial production costs. The prototype of the car, representing a pre-series sample, was shown in the fall of 2008 under the name Concept X1. The crossover went to the factory conveyor belt already in the following year. It was created on the same platform as the 3rd series E90 sedan, having the same wheelbase and borrowing a significant part of the mechanical and electronic components, as well as the layout with a front engine and rear-wheel drive. All-wheel drive transmission, as well as an automatic transmission, were offered as part of the additional equipment.

Model F48

In the summer of 2015, the production of the second-generation car began. This time, the modular UKL2 platform was used, which led to a transition to front-wheel drive. In addition, the wheelbase was reduced by 90 mm, but at the same time, the car became 23 mm wider and 67 mm higher, which allowed not only to preserve the volume of internal space but also to slightly increase it. Since the same platform is used in the 1st and 2nd series sedans, it is not surprising that all mechanical components and electronics were borrowed from these models, starting from the engine range with the basic inline "triple" with a volume of 1.5 liters and ending with the iDrive system with a 6.5-inch screen.

Model U11/U12

The crossover presented in 2022 retained the concept of the previous model, being, in essence, its modified version. The car still uses the modular UKL2 platform, but in two versions - with a standard and extended wheelbase, sharing it with the Mini Countryman crossover and the 2nd series hatchback. Perhaps the only significant difference from the predecessor was the use of updated front and all-wheel drive systems. It is worth noting the significant expansion of the list of additional equipment, where, in particular, the M Sport package appeared, including an electronically controlled "adaptive" suspension, a reduced ground clearance, as well as elements of the exterior and interior executed in a sports style. Another important innovation was the appearance in the engine range of an in-line petrol "four" with a turbocharger with a volume of 2 liters and a power of 300 hp, with which the crossover accelerates to "hundred" in 5.4 seconds. And among the electronic systems, the possibility of ordering the 8th generation iDrive with a double Curved Display screen appeared, replacing, among other things, the instrument panel.
