1999 was marked by several events. Firstly, the M57 version was presented, which was based on a 184-horsepower engine. It had a Common Rail fuel system, air cooling of the mixture, and turbocharging. Due to this, with low fuel consumption, it could reach 225 km/h. Secondly, the production of BMW cars in the E39 body began in Russia (the Avtotor plant, located in the Kaliningrad region). This factor became the foundation for the popularization of the model from the Bavarian manufacturer in the country.

Restyling

In 2000, the company modernized the model, the main visual difference of which was the "angel eyes" - the proprietary front optics. The front bumper also got a new look, the fog lights changed, and the changes affected the radiator grille. LED turn signals and dual-stage airbags appeared.

The modernization also affected the power units - three new engines appeared, representing six-cylinder in-line units, each of which had a Double-VANOS system (gas distribution). The engine volume was 2.0, 2.3, and 3.0 liters. In addition, special silent blocks with hydraulic filling were used. They contributed to better vibration suppression, increasing the overall level of comfort.

The production of the model continued until 2004, when it was replaced by a new model in the form of the E60 body.
