The BMW 6 Series is a line of luxury grand tourer cars that are designed for long-distance driving on highways. The model was present in the production range of the German brand from 1976 to 1989, as well as from 2003 to 2023.

Model E24

The model, which debuted in 1976, was positioned as the successor to the E9 coupe, receiving a body of the same type. A distinctive feature of the car was the engine range, which consisted exclusively of inline six-cylinder gasoline engines with a volume of 2.8 to 3.5 liters. Initially, the power units were combined with 4- and 5-speed manual transmissions, or with a 3-range "automatic", which was later replaced by a 4-speed one. The chassis was a combination of "MacPherson" in the front and semi-trailing arms in the rear. After 1982, additional levers appeared, which significantly changed the geometry of the entire rear suspension, but at the same time significantly improved handling and directional stability at high speeds.

Model E63

The next-generation car appeared only in 2003. Technically, it was unified with the 5th series sedan, using the same platform, but in its shortened version, differing from the "original" with extended equipment. Stylistically, the car was brought closer to the flagship 7th series, differing in a combination of concave and convex shapes. It is worth noting the use of a trunk lid and front fenders made of carbon fiber, as well as doors and a hood made of aluminum, which made it possible to significantly reduce the weight of the car. The engine range consisted of engines taken from both the 5th and 7th series. These were inline six-cylinder gasoline engines, V8/10 with a volume of 3 to 5 liters, as well as one diesel power unit with a volume of 3 liters, which was present in the lineup from 2007 to 2010.

Model F12

The car, presented in 2011, was available from the start of sales with two body types - coupe and convertible. As before, it was created on the platform of the 5th series sedan, differing from it with a shorter wheelbase, but at the same time with the extensive use of technical components from the flagship 7th series. The difference from the predecessor was a significantly smaller engine range. Standard versions were equipped with two gasoline engines with a volume of 3 and 4.4 liters, developing from 315 to 444 hp, as well as one diesel engine - 3 liters, 308 hp. The exception was the sports M6, which for the first time in the history of the M-series received a turbocharged engine with an output of 553 hp. With the exception of the M-version, all modifications were equipped with an 8-speed automatic transmission. In turn, the M-version received a 7-speed "robot" with two clutches.

Model G32

The next-generation car, which appeared in 2017, differed significantly from its predecessor, not so much in appearance as in concept. The model transformed from a sports coupe into a spacious family liftback, replacing a similar car of the 5th series with the F07 index in the brand's lineup. The platform was taken from the basic 7th series, differing from the "fives" with a significantly larger wheelbase - 3070 mm. The body turned out to be much more efficient in terms of aerodynamics, reducing the Cd to 0.25, and also became significantly lighter due to the widespread use of high-strength steel, as a result, the car lost 115 kg at once. The platform from the "seven" made it possible to increase the volume of the luggage compartment to 610 liters, surpassing the station wagon of the 5th series in this parameter. Unification with it ensured the presence of pneumatic elements at the rear, allowing the car to automatically maintain the level of the body regardless of the load. Pneumatic suspension was available at the front for an additional fee. In this case, the function of changing the ground clearance in the range of 30 mm became available.
