In 2010, the premiere of the second-generation car took place. The crossover significantly increased in size, almost "catching up" with the flagship X5 at that time. Already in the standard configuration, the model had an all-wheel drive system xDrive, while retaining the 6-speed "mechanics", an alternative to which was the 8-range "automatic". The engine range has hardly changed, but all petrol engines have become compliant with Euro-5, and diesel engines - with Euro-6. In 2014, the car underwent a restyling. There were double-round headlights, a new front and rear bumper, exterior mirrors with integrated turn signals, and in the salon - a central console with a glossy surface, different upholstery and decorative trim.

In the summer of 2017, the brand introduced a car of the third generation. This time, the car was created on the platform of the 5th series passenger car, conceding only slightly to the X5 in size and equipment. The engine range was significantly reduced, consisting of two versions of the 2-liter diesel engine B47, a new 3-liter diesel B57, an in-line petrol "six" B58 with turbocharging. In addition to the engines, the 5th series "shared" the iDrive system with gesture control and a 12.5-inch display, LED lighting and illumination. In 2019, a modification with a "hybrid" power plant from the 330e in the G20 body was introduced. It consisted of an engine from the sDrive20i/xDrive20i, which was supplemented with a 12 kWh battery and an electric motor with a power of 67 horsepower. Such a crossover could travel up to 48 km without using the internal combustion engine.
