The BMW 3 Series in the E9x body, like the cars of the previous four generations, is a compact executive model. It was produced from 2004 to 2013. The car was equipped with Run-Flat tires, a turbocharged gasoline engine, and the iDrive control system for the first time in its history.

Development

The design of the car began in mid-2002 and lasted for the next 30 months. At the same time, the development of the sedan and wagon versions was carried out by one team of engineers, and the coupe and convertible by another. The sedans and wagons were the first to reach mass production, debuting in March 2005. The coupe appeared a year later, and the convertible in 2007. Compared to its predecessor, the car has changed significantly, both externally and in terms of technical components. The E9x series is larger in terms of wheelbase and track width, with most of the increase in size going to the salon, which has become much more spacious than the previous generation model.

Restyling

During its nearly nine years of mass production, the car underwent two modernizations. The first restyling took place in 2008, when updated versions of the sedan and wagon were presented. The changes were quite significant, as they affected such important components as the rear suspension, the track of which was increased by 24 mm. In addition, the 2-liter diesel engine became more powerful, producing 181 horsepower, and the M57 engine of the 330d version was replaced by the N57. Externally, the car changed not so significantly, receiving wider "nostrils" and a new hood, front and rear bumpers, side mirrors, rear lights, and a trunk lid. The all-wheel drive versions received xDrive badges. The salon added seats with head restraints that activate when the airbags are triggered, an updated version of iDrive with increased display resolution on the front console.

The second restyling of the model took place in 2010. The lineup was expanded with the 316d wagon and 320d EfficientDynamics Edition sedan modifications. In technical terms, the changes consisted of engine upgrades. The 320d and 330d engines became compliant with Euro-6 environmental standards, and the 335i began to be equipped with the N55 engine. In addition, the ConnectedDrive infotainment system acquired additional functions. Despite the fairly long absence from mass production, these cars are still often found on our roads.
