The BMW XM debuted in the German brand's production lineup in 2022. The car became the second in the history of the M division to be developed independently by it, and the first to have a hybrid powertrain.

The car was created based on the same-named concept shown a year earlier, preserving most of its characteristic features. First of all, this is a 2-tiered layout of the lighting equipment in the front, as well as the branded "nostrils" with backlight, vertically arranged double exhaust pipes. Due to the use of a modular platform from medium-sized crossovers, the car has the same chassis layout as them, but with different settings. Already in the "base" there is an adaptive spring suspension and active stabilizers of transverse stability, as well as rear wheels that can turn at an angle of up to 2.5 degrees. In the engine compartment, there is a 4.4-liter V8 gasoline engine with twin turbocharging, adapted to work as part of a hybrid powertrain, developing up to 489 hp and 650 Nm. Like the 8-speed "automatic" from ZF, which uses an electric motor with a power of 197 hp and a torque of 280 Nm instead of a hydrotransformer. Under peak loads, such a power unit develops up to 653 hp and 800 Nm. On the floor, there is a traction battery with a capacity of 29.5 kWh. Its charge is enough for 88 kilometers of charge, and the car can accelerate up to 140 km/h. The on-board charging device is designed to work with external sources with a power of up to 7.4 kW. In addition to the "electric" mode, the powertrain has two more operating modes - Hybrid and eControl. When the latter is activated, it becomes possible to select the automatically maintained level of battery charge and the degree of energy recovery during braking. All these components have significantly increased the weight of the car - plus 390 kg compared to the X6 M Competition, which affected the dynamics. Compared to the latter, the "hybrid" loses half a second in acceleration to "hundred", showing 4.3 seconds.
