The BMW iX1 is a compact crossover with a fully electric powertrain. The vehicle is an integral part of the same line of entry-level sports SUVs from the German brand. It has been in production since autumn 2022.

Technical Features

The model is built on the modular UKL platform, initially intended for compact crossovers with internal combustion engines. From them, it inherited the chassis with MacPherson struts at the front and an independent suspension on three levers at the rear. In terms of dimensions, the car is only slightly inferior to the first-generation X3, but it has a significantly increased ground clearance of up to 205 mm. The key feature, however, is the powertrain - this is the fifth-generation eDrive, taken without any significant changes from existing passenger car models of the brand. Currently, it offers two modifications. The "base" is the front-wheel drive eDrive20 with a single traction electric motor with 204 horsepower and 247 Nm of torque. The crossover debuted with a more powerful powertrain - two electric motors, which together produce 313 horsepower and 494 Nm of torque. Each of them is located on its own axle, which makes it possible to implement four-wheel drive. In both modifications, a 64.7 kWh battery pack is used, located in the "basement" of the salon. It provides a power reserve for the most dynamic version of up to 438 km. Both crossovers "share" one charging device with a power of 22 kW when alternating current and 130 kW when direct current, thanks to which charging up to 80% can take only 29 minutes.

Differences in Design and Salon

The exterior of the crossover, except for the proprietary blue decor, is identical to the "gasoline" analogs. In the salon, there are no differences at all. The exception is the volume of the luggage compartment, which is slightly reduced due to the location of the traction battery and additional battery under the floor and ranges from 490 to 1495 liters. For the same reason, longitudinal adjustment of the rear row of seats is not available, however, the possibility of separate folding of three sections in a ratio of 40:20:20 is already available in the standard equipment.
