Tires on BMW Z4 Roadster (БМВ)

The BMW company presented the Z4 Roadster in 2002. The car became the successor to the Z3 model, while preserving its conceptual features, representing a sports car with rear-wheel drive, differing in more modern technologies and improved characteristics. At the same time, the development was carried out taking into account the preferences of buyers, both in Europe and in North America, where the demand for 2-seat roadsters remained consistently high. Engineers paid special attention to weight distribution, body stiffness, and suspension settings. As a result, the Z4 became one of the most technologically advanced representatives of its segment.

    First generation: focus on "drive"

The first generation of the roadster, which received the E85 index, was based on a modernized platform from the 3-series family, differing in a smaller distance between the wheel axles, as well as an increased stiffness of the floor, sills, and central tunnel, which gave a significant increase in the strength of the open body for bending and torsion, improving handling.

The chassis layout "moved" from the 3-series almost without changes - McPherson struts in front and a multi-link structure in the back. Thanks to the almost ideal weight distribution along the axes of 50:50, the car demonstrated neutral handling and ease of control.

The engine range consisted of in-line gasoline "sixes" with a volume of 2.2 to 3.2 liters. A special place was occupied by the Z4 M version, equipped with the S54 engine from BMW M3 with a power of 343 horsepower. In combination with a 6-speed manual transmission, this engine turned the roadster into a full-fledged sports car.

Unlike many competitors of that time, the Z4 focused not only on style but also on technical precision of control. For example, the Mercedes-Benz SLK offered a folding metal roof and a greater emphasis on comfort, while BMW focused on active driving. The Porsche Boxster had a more complex mid-engine architecture, but it was significantly more expensive.

Second generation: transformation of the concept

In 2009, the second generation of the Z4 with the E89 index was released to the market. The main change was the design of the roof: the soft tent gave way to a folding metal roof, transforming the car from a roadster to a compact coupe.

The new architecture allowed increasing the level of comfort and noise insulation. With the roof closed, the cabin became quieter, and the body became stiffer. However, the additional mechanism increased the weight of the car, which slightly changed its character. The range of power units still included in-line "sixes", but now with turbocharging. Basic versions began to be equipped with 4-cylinder 2-liter engines. The most powerful version, the sDrive35is, developed 340 horsepower and was equipped with a robotic transmission with two clutches.

The equipment included adaptive shock absorbers, a system for selecting driving modes, an advanced multimedia complex iDrive, and a navigation system. The car became significantly more technological and focused on comfort for long trips.

Third generation G29: return to roots

The 3rd generation was presented in 2018. The development was carried out in cooperation with the company Toyota, and the car uses a common platform with the Toyota Supra. The main change was the return to the classic soft tent.

This decision allowed reducing the weight of the car and improving weight distribution. At the same time, the roof folding mechanism became faster and more compact.

The suspension received adaptive shock absorbers and an electronically controlled differential. The top version, the M40i, is equipped with an in-line 6-cylinder turbo engine B58 with a power of 340 horsepower and an 8-speed automatic transmission. From the point of view of equipment, the Z4 approached modern BMW coupes. The cabin uses a digital instrument panel, a multimedia system with a large display, sports seats, and a wide range of electronic assistants.

The standard equipment implied the use of disks with a mounting diameter from 17 to 19 inches, along with tires in the size of 225/45, 225/40, or 255/35, designed for high stability and precise response to steering. It is convenient to select the suitable wheel products for this model in the online store "Mosavtoshina", where options are presented that correspond to the factory parameters of the car and its dynamic characteristics.
