Initially, the engine power was 100 hp, but after its modernization, it began to produce 136 hp. In this generation, the coupe was discontinued, and in 1977, a hatchback appeared in its place. Along with them, a sedan with two and four doors was produced.

After three years (in 1980), a restyling was carried out, which slightly modified the exterior and added a new five-cylinder engine with a volume of 1.9 liters.

The smoothness of the body forms allowed the third generation of the car to demonstrate improved aerodynamic resistance indicators. This also affected fuel economy. It was these two factors that became key in Audi's advertising campaigns.

Starting from this generation, the manufacturer began to install its proprietary quattro all-wheel-drive system, which began to be installed from 1994. In 1995, the car received a new name - Audi A6. Along with it, a restyling was carried out, which modified the seats and dashboard. The model began to be equipped with the quattro system of the 4th generation. This marked the end of the legendary "hundred" history and the beginning of a new one for the A6.
