The Audi RS Q3 debuted in the lineup of "charged" crossovers of the German brand in early 2016, occupying an initial position at that time. It is distinguished from the standard version of the "crossover" by much higher technical characteristics and a noticeably changed concept of use.

Initial version

Like the standard model, this "crossover" was based on the platform and components of the compact hatchback A3 of the current generation at the time of its debut. Only the most "charged" RS version was taken as the basis. In particular, the power unit was taken from it - an inline 5-cylinder gasoline engine with a turbocharger with a volume of 2.5 liters, and in a modified version with increased power and torque - 367 hp and 465 Nm. In combination with a 7-speed robotic gearbox S Tronic and all-wheel drive system, this allows the crossover to accelerate to "hundred" in 4.4 seconds, surpassing its main competitor - Mercedes-AMG GLA 45.

Second iteration

In the fall of 2019, the German brand presented a car of the next generation. Two trim levels were offered - with a standard body and a coupe-like one, which received the name Sportback. Both crossovers differ from the usual Q3 versions with enlarged air intakes in the front bumper and a massive diffuser at the back. The interior of the "ignition" stands out with sports seats for the driver and passenger, a "cut-off" steering wheel and distinctive decorative elements for RS models. The "digital" instrument cluster is already present in the standard equipment.

In technical terms, the key innovation was the appearance under the hood of a modified engine from the previous model. It is distinguished by a more extensive use of aluminum, from which, in particular, the crankcase is made, as well as a new supercharger, which "blows" with a pressure of 1.35 atm instead of 1.2 atm. A combined fuel injection system appeared in the engine, which now enters not only the cylinders but also the collector. As a result, the power unit lost 26 kilograms at once, becoming much more powerful - 400 hp and 480 Nm. It still combines with a 7-speed "robot" and the "brand" all-wheel drive system Quattro. The standard equipment includes the possibility of choosing from six driving modes, two of which - RS1 and RS2 - imply the most extreme settings, and for their activation, a separate button is provided on the steering wheel. Another difference from the standard model was the chassis, which was also modified. The key feature was the expansion of the track, which was reflected in the exterior of the car in the form of enlarged wheel arches. The redesigned suspension became stiffer, reducing the ground clearance by 10 mm. The list of additional options includes an adaptive chassis with electronic control of the shock absorber characteristics.
