The Audi Q3 is a subcompact luxury crossover. It has been produced since 2011.

Concept

The car's design began after the premiere of the Cross Coupe quattro concept in 2007. It was a compact coupe-like crossover with a soft folding top, equipped with a 2-liter turbocharged diesel engine, producing 204 horsepower, a four-wheel drive system with a Haldex clutch, a robotized S-Tronic gearbox, a "MacPherson" front suspension and a rear suspension with 4 levers. Also, it featured an Audi Drive Select system with three engine, chassis, and transmission operating modes. Almost all of these components appeared in the production crossover, presented in 2011. In the brand's model line, it was positioned above the even more compact Q2, but below the Q5 and Q7, significantly differing from them in concept, which was focused not on practicality and efficiency off-road, but on sporty handling and people with an active lifestyle. The PQ35 platform from Volkswagen was chosen as the platform, on which all the current passenger car models of this brand and Audi were created using the same components, including engines and transmissions.

Updated version

In 2014, the manufacturer presented an updated version of the crossover. Externally, these were minor changes, mainly affecting the front part. Inside, a new steering wheel and traffic control systems for lanes and "blind" zones appeared. The engine range did not change in content, but the engines that made it up were improved, especially the "basic" 1.4-liter power unit. It received a system that automatically turned off a pair of cylinders during prolonged uniform movement, which provided significant fuel savings. The other engines became slightly more powerful, mainly due to changes in the software algorithms. Further changes in the engine range led to the modernization of power units to meet new environmental standards.

Model F3

In the summer of 2018, the brand presented a crossover of the second generation. The car is based on the modular MQB A2 platform, differing from its predecessor mainly in components. Externally, the crossover retained stylistic similarities with its predecessor, as well as its concept. The engine range starts with 1.4-liter gasoline engines of the EA211 series, borrowed from the previous model. It is also used as one of the components of the "hybrid" power plant with a plug-in electric motor powered by a battery. The "diesel" part, as before, is represented by two versions of a 2-liter power unit with turbocharging and Common Rail, which, depending on the version, produces 150 or 184 horsepower. Since the first generation, this crossover has been quite popular, often found on domestic roads and occasionally requiring replacement of tires and wheels.
