The full-size off-road Audi Q7 is the "firstborn" of the company, which decided to occupy its own place in the rapidly growing segment. At that time, the main competitors were the Touareg from Volkswagen and the Cayenne from Porsche. Despite the fact that all manufacturers belonged to the same concern, there was constant competition among them. The management of Audi saw an opportunity to take an intermediate position and presented a model that was more prestigious than the Touareg, but less expensive than the Cayenne.Beginnings
In 2005, the first generation was presented, which was distinguished by its massive dimensions. The car alone was over 5 meters long. The main feature of the model was the variability of the configuration. The manufacturer offered a huge set of additional options, among which there were several options for front seats, not to mention the various assistants.As power units, V-shaped engines with 6 or 8 cylinders were used, which ran on diesel or gasoline. Together with them, a 6-speed "Tiptronic" transmission was offered. Naturally, the car was only available with the proprietary Quattro all-wheel drive.
In 2009, a restyling was carried out, which did not significantly affect the appearance, but the power units underwent changes. The 3.6 and 4.2 liter FSI gasoline engines were replaced with a 3.0 TFSI. And among the diesels, a V12 with 500 horsepower appeared.
Further development of the model
For more than ten years, Audi fans waited for the release of the second generation, which appeared only in 2015. The car combined style, prestige, and quality. It was still technically equipped with the most advanced systems. Among them, we can mention automatic braking in front of an obstacle, monitoring of pedestrians and cyclists behind the car, automatic change of the angle of rotation of the rear wheels (helps to keep the vehicle on speed and reduces the angle of rotation).The model became a bit smaller than its predecessor, but this in no way affected the comfort of the cabin. At the same time, it became lighter by more than 300 kg. This was achieved through the use of aluminum elements. This factor also had a positive effect on the weight distribution, making the vehicle more stable.
As for the power units, initially only two options were offered: a 2-liter diesel or gasoline. Moreover, each of them allowed the car to accelerate to 100 km/h in just over 6 seconds.
The car's interior can be said to have been executed in a more ascetic style, i.e. without excesses. And the main mass of adjustments was implemented through a touch screen. It is noteworthy that the instrument panel could also be made fully digital (optional).
In 2019, a restyling was also carried out, which changed the front bumper and radiator grille, and a large number of additional "assistants" appeared.
In our country, the car was appreciated for its worth, starting from the first generation. It is noteworthy that its representatives are still actively used today. The only restraining factor for active distribution was the high cost and expensive maintenance.
