Audi A2 – a compact hatchback from the German manufacturer started rolling off the assembly line in 1999, and its prototype called AL 2 was unveiled two years earlier. Note that the name of the car contains its essence, namely an aluminum body.The car had an original dome-shaped body, which made the salon more spacious. After the launch of production, the model immediately entered the European market, and then other countries of the world, including Russia. But in our country, the car did not "take root". All because of its price, which was comparable to cars of a larger segment A4 and A6. Therefore, soon the manufacturer removed the model from the Russian market. And in other countries, the demand for such transport was not high. During its entire history, which lasted until 2005, just over 175,000 copies were sold.
In 2011, the company at one of the auto shows presented a concept of the second generation A2. The car was supposed to become fully electric or hybrid. But these plans were not destined to come true. Therefore, in 2014, official information was received about the complete abandonment of further development of the model in favor of more promising options.
Technical features
In terms of power units, gasoline engines with a volume of 1.4 and 1.6 liters (75 and 110 hp, respectively) were used. Diesel versions with a volume of 1.2 and 1.4 liters were also installed. Note that there was a modification with a 1.2-liter diesel engine called A2 3L. Its feature was a maximally low fuel consumption, which was equal to or slightly exceeded three liters per "hundred" kilometers.In 2004, the A2H2 version was also presented. The car was equipped with a hydrogen-powered engine. With one refueling, the vehicle could travel up to 220 km. But the model did not receive widespread distribution due to the lack of distribution of refueling stations.
A 5-speed manual transmission or a robotic version, also with five positions, acted as a gearbox.
Among the equipment, such systems as ABS, brake force distribution, stability control, and a number of others were mandatory. Thanks to them, as well as the presence of several airbags, the car was able to receive a high rating during safety tests.
