Audi S3 is the "hot" version of the popular compact model of the German brand, belonging to the C segment. The car has been produced since 1999, having changed four generations.

First Generation

The car appeared in the production lineup of the brand in 1999. It was created on the PQ34 platform, which it shared with all Volkswagen concern models belonging to the C segment. The key difference from the standard hatchback was the engine - an in-line gasoline "four" with a turbocharger with a volume of 1.8 liters, from which it was possible to "squeeze out" 210 liters. s. It was taken with minimal changes from the sports coupe TT, and this was the first engine with 5 valves per cylinder used in S-series cars. It differed from its "classmates" not only in its high torque for that time - 280 Nm, but also in its availability in the range of 2200-5500 rpm. Another feature was the use of an upgraded all-wheel drive system Quattro, which, in a uniform driving mode, delivered most of the power to the front axle, redistributing it to the rear wheels "on demand".

Second Generation

The next generation of the car was presented in 2006 and, as before, was based on the A3 hatchback. At the same time, the lineup was expanded due to the appearance in it of more practical 5-door versions. Within the framework of the concept of the entire S-series, its key element again became the engine. This time, a 2-liter FSI was used with different pistons, a fuel supply system, as well as a K04 turbocharger with an increased intermediate cooler. This made it possible to increase the power to 265 liters. s. and provide acceleration to "hundred" in 5.5 seconds. The suspension was revised accordingly, receiving other shock absorbers and springs. The Quattro all-wheel drive system was distinguished by the presence of a Haldex clutch in it, which was due to the transverse arrangement of the power unit.

Third Generation

At the start of sales of the third iteration in 2012, the car was available exclusively as a 3-door hatchback. The lineup was expanded only in the fall of 2013, when a 4-door sedan appeared on sale. In the summer of the following 2014, a convertible with a fabric top became available, the process of opening and closing which took no more than 18 seconds and was controlled from a button in the cabin at a speed of up to 50 km/h. In technical terms, the car did not differ much from its predecessor, becoming more powerful with the same engine, which, after another cycle of modernization, began to develop 300 liters. s. As an option, a 6-speed robotic gearbox with a dual clutch was offered.

Fourth Generation

In the late summer of 2020, the German brand presented a car of the fourth generation, a few months after the debut of the new generation A3 lineup. It still used the classic set of a 2-liter turbocharged engine, a robotic gearbox, and an all-wheel drive system Quattro with a Haldex clutch. The chassis also did not change, but at the same time lost the version with optional adaptive Magnetic Ride shock absorbers.

Technical changes followed in the spring of 2024, when the debut of the updated version took place. The key innovation was the appearance in the all-wheel drive system of two Torque Splitter clutches, taken from the even more powerful RS3. They are used to "vectorize" the torque on the rear wheels, which can be distributed to each of them in the range from 0 to 100%. But at the same time, the drift mode did not become available, being the prerogative of RS3. In addition, the suspension was modified. In the front, there were other bearings and levers with increased stiffness in bending and torsion, which made the steering more precise. Another difference was the increase in the performance of the brake mechanisms, achieved by increasing the size of the discs. The car is equipped with 225/40R18 tires as standard, and optionally 235/35 R19, namely from Falken. Such models, among others, can be found in the online store "Mosavtoshina".
