Шины на Audi A8L (Ауди)

Audi A8L is a stretched version of the full-size luxury sedan. It has been produced since 1994. It is a flagship model not only for the German brand but also for the entire industry, as it was the first mass-produced passenger car with a fully aluminum body, developed in conjunction with Alcoa.

History of creation

In 1982, the Volkswagen management signed an agreement with the American Alcoa, one of the world's largest aluminum producers, on the joint development of a passenger car that would be significantly smaller than any model in its class. By the end of the 1980s, the concept of a promising model was chosen, which was to become the successor to the German brand's flagship sedan, the Type 4C, which debuted in 1988. Two years later, the practical implementation of the project began. The variant of Chris Bird and Dirk Van Brekel was chosen. The first practical results were shown in the fall of 1993, when the Audi Space Frame concept was presented at the Frankfurt Motor Show, made entirely of polished aluminum. Pre-production specimens appeared in December 1993. By this time, the costs of implementing this project had exceeded $700 million.

Initial version

The official debut of the production car took place in the winter of 1994. It was built on the new D2 platform developed by Volkswagen at that time, but the body was a fully aluminum monocoque, which differed not only in its high rigidity but also in its extremely low weight. The difference from the standard version was the wheelbase, which was increased by 127 mm, most of which fell on the legroom of passengers in the second row. Another feature of this version was the equipment, which included the Quattro all-wheel drive system, created on the basis of Torsen, "by default". The engine range was also significantly different, starting with a 2.8-liter V6 gasoline engine with 193 horsepower and a 2.5-liter 5-cylinder diesel engine with 150 horsepower. The most dynamic version was equipped with a 4.2-liter V8 gasoline engine with 300 horsepower. And in 2001, the German brand introduced a more significant modification for this model with a 6-liter engine. This was a new engine with a rare layout - W12, which consisted of two VR6 engines assembled on a single crankshaft. Already in the initial version, its power was 360 horsepower, and later it was possible to increase it to 420 horsepower.

Model D3

The presentation of the second-generation model took place in the fall of 2002. The car, using the platform of its predecessor, turned out to be even longer, which made it possible to provide passengers in the second row with even more space. At the same time, it did not differ too much from the previous model, which was due to the physical properties of aluminum, which is a much less plastic metal compared to steel. It was for this reason that the sedan differed in its rounded body panels and smooth transitions between them. Compared to the standard model, its wheelbase was 120 mm longer and 11 mm higher. But in technical terms, it fully repeated its "top" versions. Already in the standard version, the sedan was equipped with the Quattro all-wheel drive system of the fourth generation, which could redirect up to 70% of the torque to the front and rear axles without delay. At the start of sales, the car was offered with the W12 from the previous model. It was replaced by a new engine of the same layout in 2005. In addition, the sedan received a 4.1-liter diesel V8 with turbocharging and direct fuel injection, producing 315 horsepower. It was distinguished by the presence of two turbochargers, each of which "served" one row of four cylinders.

Model D4

In 2009, the manufacturer introduced the third-generation sedan. This time, it used the MLB modular platform, but in combination with the aluminum monocoque from its predecessor. This made this modification the lightest all-wheel drive car in its class, as well as the most economical. The engine range at the start of sales began with a 3-liter diesel engine with 250 horsepower, and the most dynamic versions had a 4.2-liter FSI gasoline engine with 372 horsepower. The W12 modification was introduced in 2010. The engine was upgraded and differed from the previous version with an increased working volume of up to 6.3 liters and direct fuel injection, which made it possible to increase the power to 500 horsepower.

Model D5

The current-generation sedan was introduced in 2018, almost a year after the debut of the car with a standard wheelbase. The model was built on the MLB Evo platform and differed in a much smaller number of changes than before. Unfortunately, the W12 was removed from the lineup, and its place was taken by a hybrid powerplant with a plug-in gasoline V8, operating at 48V, which helps during acceleration. Starting from the first generation, the car has been popular with our compatriots, differing in an attractive combination of comfort and dynamics. This is largely ensured by the correctly chosen tires, which can be purchased in the "Mosavtoshina" online store.
