The Volkswagen Caravelle, although related to commercial vehicles, differs from them in terms of comfort, similar to a passenger car. It is a modification of the Transporter van, which was produced on its basis, starting from the third generation. The car was discontinued in 2015 and replaced by the MultiVan model, which was created according to the same concept as its predecessor.

The car was first introduced in 1979 as part of the debut of the commercial Transporter van of the 3rd generation, being one of its modifications. On the outside, there were rectangular headlights, alloy wheels, and plastic bumpers. The engine range began to use liquid-cooled engines.

T4 Body

In 1990, the brand introduced the Transporter of the 4th generation, whose lineup again included this model. The car differed significantly from its predecessor, primarily in terms of layout with a front-mounted engine. It was built on the basis of a version with a standard wheelbase, representing a minibus with glazing all around and three rows of seats. The difference from commercial versions was the engine range, which included engines not available for them. First and foremost, this is a 2.8-liter VR6 gasoline engine with a power of up to 201 horsepower from the "charged" versions of the brand's passenger cars. To accommodate this power unit, the manufacturer had to extend the front of the car in 1996.

T5 Body

In the fall of 2002, the premiere of the Transporter of the 5th generation took place. The difference was that this car, along with the Multivan, was "separated", forming a separate line of minibuses, which was due to the numerousness of the brand's light commercial vehicle series, containing more than 100 different modifications. Technically, this was a combination of two equipment options for two passenger versions of the Transporter - Kombi and Shuttle. This model was equipped with most of the equipment offered in these versions in the standard configuration, along with two wheelbase options and a maximum wide engine range. The difference was the presence of stability control systems, traction control, and ABS, air conditioning, passenger seats with adjustable lumbar support, front seats with armrests, rearview mirrors with heating and electric drive. The list of additional equipment included an electric drive for the rear door and a CD changer. In the fall of 2009, the brand introduced an updated version of the model, which differed in the presence of modifications with a robotic DSG gearbox, systems for monitoring movement along the lane and "blind" zones, xenon headlights with LED "daytime" lighting, as well as a multimedia system with a rearview camera. The engine range also underwent significant changes. It consisted of one gasoline and several diesel engines with a volume of 2 liters. Moreover, the power units operating on heavy fuel, thanks to the use of Common Rail, became 20% more efficient than their predecessors.
