The Volkswagen Passat Alltrack is an "off-road" version of the popular mid-size German brand's estate car. The car was first shown in the fall of 2010 and was located in the production line between passenger cars and crossovers of this brand.

Initial version

The car owes its appearance to the Subaru Outback, which essentially created a new "passenger" segment, while being quite successful from a commercial point of view. The model followed the same concept, being available only in the estate body, differing from the standard version with an increased ground clearance and a plastic body kit that protected the body elements at the bottom from damage. It is worth noting that the clearance was only 165 mm, which corresponded to similar indicators of passenger cars of the brand, offered, among other things, on our market with the so-called "bad road package". But none of them had the 4Motion system borrowed from the German brand's crossovers. It had a special "off-road" mode, changing the settings of the ABS, gearbox, all-wheel drive system, and engine. This feature partly justified the reduced engine range compared to standard estates. It consisted of two diesel and two petrol engines with a volume of 1.8 and 2 liters, developing a power from 140 to 207 horsepower. The least powerful petrol 1.8 and diesel 2 liters were available only with front-wheel drive and a 6-speed "mechanics". All other versions had a "coupling" of 2-liter engines and a robotic gearbox with 6 switching ranges from the German brand's crossovers.

Second generation

The car of the next iteration was presented at the end of 2015 and was based on the B8 estate. It differed from the same features as the previous model. But the ground clearance added almost a centimeter, amounting to 174 mm, and the "off-road" 4Motion system, along with all-wheel drive with a Haldex clutch, was available for all versions. Its presence on the rear axle slightly reduced the volume of the luggage compartment, by 11 liters, accommodating 639 liters. The engine range consisted of engines from the regular Passat. First of all, this is an in-line diesel engine with a turbocharger with a volume of 2 liters, developing 150, 190 or 240 horsepower, depending on the version. In addition to it, the range included a 2-liter TSI, developing 220 horsepower. Despite all the differences, the estate remained a passenger car, requiring the use of corresponding wheels and tires.
