The compact wagon made its debut in the German brand's model lineup in 2021. Technically, the car is unified with the R-version of the hatchback, but with a number of unique features due to the body type.

Initial version

The car was created based on the standard wagon, differing from the hatchback not only in body type, but also in an increased wheelbase of 66 mm, which provided more space in the cabin and luggage compartment. The cargo capabilities of the "charged" car are further emphasized by the possibility of installing a tow bar, thanks to which it could tow trailers weighing up to 1.9 tons.

Under the hood was a 2-liter turbocharged inline-four gasoline engine of the EA888 evo4 family, developing 320 hp and 420 Nm. The power unit worked in "pair" with a 7-speed robotic gearbox with two clutches. Another difference from the standard model was the 4Motion all-wheel drive system, in a modified version without an inter-axle clutch, instead of which onboard friction clutches are used, one for each wheel. In addition to the engine and transmission, the wagon "moved" the modes of their operation, including "drift", although available as an optional R Performance package. In all other respects, the car is completely identical to the hatchback, including the sports suspension with a reduced ground clearance of 20 mm and adaptive shock absorbers.

Updated variant

In 2024, the car of the next generation debuted, following the release of the updated standard wagon. It was distinguished by a lowered front end and an illuminated brand logo. The cabin stood out with an increased 12.9-inch display of the multimedia system.

In technical terms, the key innovation was the appearance under the hood of a modified version of the 2-liter engine, which two years earlier debuted in the "jubilee" Golf R 20 Years Edition with an output of 333 hp and 420 Nm. This allowed to reduce the acceleration time to "hundred" to 4.8 seconds. Also worth noting is the appearance in the list of additional options of 19-inch forged Warmenau wheels weighing only 8 kg.
