Шины на Mercedes G-Class (Мерседес)

The Mercedes G-Class is currently a luxury off-road vehicle. It has been produced since 1979 by the company Magna Steyr. The vehicle was developed as an off-road vehicle for military purposes, but later the lineup received modifications for the civilian sector, which became extremely popular and remain so today.

Creation History

The development of the vehicle began in 1972 and was carried out by the joint efforts of Steyr-Daimler-Puch and Mercedes-Benz. The Austrians were responsible for preparing for production, and the Germans were directly responsible for designing the off-road vehicle. The first serial instances were released in 1979. Initially, the vehicle was available in five body options and three engines, representing a utility model with a minimal level of comfort. The first significant modernization it underwent was in 1981, when versions with an automatic transmission appeared, and the list of equipment included an additional fuel tank, grilles for the headlights, and a winch. In 1982, the engines received a fuel injection system with electronic control, along with new seats, an additional heater, wide tires, and fenders on the wings. In 1985, the standard equipment included differential locks, a tachometer, and a central door lock.

W463 Model

In 1990, an off-road vehicle with the W463 index was presented. This was a landmark vehicle for the G-Class due to the changed concept, under which it ceased to be a Spartan and utilitarian vehicle. First of all, the design changed, in which rounded edges appeared, especially in the front part. In addition, all add-on parts were painted in the body color, and the bumper received a recess for attaching a license plate, for which the radiator grille had to be made narrower. In turn, wood began to be used for finishing in the interior, and the instrument panel was a single unit with the front console, which contained climate control regulators. In addition, ABS and a permanent all-wheel drive system were included in the standard equipment. The engine range was borrowed from the W461, which, in turn, remained a utilitarian off-road vehicle for the army and special services. As a result, the vehicle began to compete with the British Range Rover, completely changing its target audience, while becoming its hostage, since it differed in extremely conservative views, due to which this model practically did not change over the next few decades.

Second Generation

The second-generation off-road vehicle was presented only in 2018. The vehicle changed the platform, which made it possible to use high-strength steel and aluminum on a wider scale, allowing to significantly reduce the weight and increase the body stiffness. A side effect of this innovation was a significant reduction in the gaps between the doors and body panels. Visually, the off-road vehicle retained its connection with its predecessor, repeating most of its stylistic features. Nevertheless, several details were transferred without changes - headlight washers, a spare wheel cover, and door handles with buttons. Another fundamental difference from the predecessor was the equipment and electronic systems borrowed from the brand's passenger cars, including the A-Class. In the fall of 2021, the vehicle underwent a modernization, within which LED light sources, modified bumpers appeared. In addition, a diesel inline "six" OM656 with a volume of 2.9 liters appeared in the engine range, which meets the requirements of the Euro-3 environmental standard. This power unit is the only one in the lineup that can run on low-quality fuel with a high sulfur content, making it an extremely attractive option for use, including in our country, where there is still a large number of instances of this off-road vehicle. Tires and wheels for it are presented in a wide range in the online store "Mosavtoshina".
