Mercedes CLE-Class represents a line of Grand Touring class passenger cars. It debuted in the fall of 2023, replacing two lines in the model range at once, created on the basis of the C- and E-Class.

Main Features

The first model in the new line was a 2-door coupe. Despite the index indicating belonging to the mid-size cars, it was created on the modular MPA2 platform, sharing it with the fifth-generation C-Class with the W206 index, which debuted in 2021. Both models have the same wheelbase - 2865 mm. But in terms of dimensions, the coupe turned out to be significantly larger, mainly due to the increased overhangs, bringing the overall length to 4850 mm, exceeding the E-Class sedan in this parameter. With this model, the car shares quite extensive equipment. The base versions offer LED headlights, and for a surcharge - matrix Digital Light. Another difference from the "platform mate" is the layout behind the rear struts. Due to the change in the shape of the side walls and the lowering of the floor, the volume of the luggage compartment was significantly increased - up to 420 liters, which is only 15 liters less than the same E-Class.

As for the interior, it is here that the "kinship" with the C-Class is most clearly visible. In fact, this is the same salon as the W206 with a characteristic design of the central part of the front console, but almost completely closed by an 11.9-inch inclined touchscreen of the MBUX multimedia system from the current generation E-Class. Three versions of the acoustics are offered, the top one being the Burmester version with 17 speakers, two of which are located in the headrests of the front seats. They have air chambers in the lumbar region and are equipped with heating and memory in the base versions. Additional options include seats with massage function and ventilation. In all versions, they have a leather strap that is used to fold the backrests.

In technical terms, the car is maximally unified, both with the C- and E-Class. The base version is equipped with a 2-liter turbocharged diesel engine with an output of 200 hp and 440 Nm, which is combined only with rear-wheel drive. The closest alternative to it is a modification with a turbocharged 2-liter inline "four" with a power of 204 hp and a torque of 320 Nm, for which the 4MATIC all-wheel drive system is available. The top version closes the gap between the standard coupe and its "charged" version from AMG, offering an inline turbo "six" with a volume of 3 liters, developing 381 hp and 500 Nm in combination with all-wheel drive. With this engine, the car accelerates to "hundred" in just 4.4 seconds. All power units work in tandem with a 9-speed "automatic" 9G-Tronic. Another common feature for all versions is the presence of a "hybrid superstructure" in the form of a 48-volt starter-generator, which adds 23 hp and 200 Nm in the first moments of acceleration, and also saves fuel by increasing the duration of the "start-stop" system when braking.

The next important feature of the car is the chassis. All versions have sports settings and clearance, 15 mm lower than the C-Class, by default. The list of additional options includes, as an option from AMG with even more "evil" settings, but also a more "advanced" version, on the rear wheels of which there are actuators that deflect them at an angle of up to 2.5 degrees. At a speed of over 60 km/h, they turn in the same direction as the front wheels, and at less than 60 km/h - in the opposite direction, reducing the turning radius by half a meter and improving maneuverability. Depending on the configuration version, the standard wheels for this model have a mounting diameter from 18 to 20 inches.
