Initial Version

The car made its debut in 2004 at the Paris Motor Show. For the first few years, the German brand offered a model with the 55 index, which was equipped with a 5.4-liter turbocharged V8 engine, producing 470 hp and 700 Nm of torque, a high-performance version of the M255 power unit from the CLS 550. Another difference from the standard model was the electronically controlled air suspension AirMATIC with sports settings and several operating modes, a braking system with 360 mm discs and 8-piston calipers, as well as a 5-speed automatic transmission designed for higher loads.

In 2006, the successor to the 55 model was introduced - the CLS 63 AMG. The car received a new engine at the time, the M156. This was still a V8, but with an increased working volume of 6.2 liters, producing 514 hp. Through software, its torque was lower than that of the previous model - 630 Nm. This was due to the use of a new 7-speed automatic transmission, the AMG Speedshift Plus 7G-Tronic, which was less robust than the previously used 5-speed hydromechanical "automatic". However, this was more than compensated for by the three operating modes of the transmission, including fully manual. The "Sport" mode accelerated the gear shift by 50%, and "Comfort" by 30%.

Second Generation

In the spring of 2011, the German brand began selling the second-generation car. The model retained the engine and transmission of its predecessor but was significantly modernized, resulting in an increased power output of 518 hp and a torque of 700 Nm. An important difference from it was the expanded front wheel track by 24 mm. In the spring of 2013, the car underwent an update that affected not only the exterior but also the engine and transmission, resulting in a power output of 550 hp and a torque of 720 Nm. Additionally, a more powerful S version was introduced, distinguished by the presence of all-wheel drive and a self-locking differential on the rear axle as standard equipment.

Third Generation

In 2018, the third iteration of the car made its debut. The model received a modernized version of the hybrid unit from the top modification of the standard CLS 450. It consisted of an inline 3-liter gasoline engine and an electric motor that added a bit of power and torque when starting from a standstill and accelerating, recovering braking energy, and also serving as a generator for the 48V onboard network. The total power output of the unit is 430 hp, and the torque is 520 Nm. However, the use of a new modular MPA platform in the car and the reduced weight allowed the dynamic properties to be preserved at the same level. In particular, acceleration to the first "hundred" takes 4.5 seconds. However, this can only be fully realized when using the corresponding tires.
