The Mercedes EQE AMG debuted in the German automaker's lineup in February 2022. It is the "charged" version of the electric sedan of the representative class, differing from it with improved dynamic properties and more sporty handling.

Technical features

The manufacturer already offered a line of AMG versions of the EQE sedan with the standard indices 43 and 53 for this brand at the start of sales. But, unlike other "charged" options, the difference in technology turned out to be not so significant, which is largely due to the limited capabilities of the platform and available components. The initial version received two electric motors with a total output of 476 "horses" and 858 Nm, which allows acceleration to "hundred" in 4.2 seconds. The traction battery must be charged at least halfway. Its capacity is 90.6 kWh, thanks to which the range is up to 533 kilometers.

The top version with the index 53 is distinguished by the use of a modified version of the same electric motors, designed to operate at a higher current, for which a different winding, inverters, and a liquid cooling system with a larger number of channels are used, one of which is located inside the rotor shaft. The oil cooling system of the gearboxes has increased performance. As a result, the total output was increased to 626 horsepower and 950 Nm. The list of additional options includes the AMG Dynamic Plus package, which adds another driving mode - Race Start, at which the power unit gives 687 horsepower and 1000 Nm during the first seconds of acceleration. With such components, the car accelerates to "hundred" in 3.3 seconds, but provided that the battery is charged at least 70%. It is worth noting that the top version "by default" is equipped with the 4MATIC+ all-wheel drive system, which much faster operates the torque, distributing it to the axles in a wider range than the base 43rd model. To a large extent, it is its presence that explains the quite insignificant reduction in range, despite the use of an electric powertrain with significantly higher energy consumption - up to 518 kilometers.

Without the "sports" power boost package, both versions offer four power unit operating modes, of which only one, Sport+, allows using all 100% of the power. The maximum energy saving is achieved in the Slippery mode, where the power of the electric motors is reduced by half. In all trim levels, the sedan uses a pneumatic adaptive chassis AMG Ride Control+, which differs from the one used in the standard EQE with other levers, hubs, stabilizers, and bearings. In two "sports" modes, the car's ground clearance decreases by 15 mm, regardless of the speed. In "comfort" mode, the sedan automatically lowers to the road when accelerating above 120 km/h. Another difference of this chassis is the steerable rear wheels, which can turn up to 3.6 degrees - above 60 km/h in the same direction as the front wheels, and, conversely, at speeds below 60 km/h, improving maneuverability and reducing the turning radius.

Design and equipment

Externally, both versions are almost indistinguishable from each other, having common characteristics for all AMG models. First of all, it is the front panel, which imitates a radiator grille with vertical bars painted in a silver color. In addition, bumpers with a more aggressive design and a more massive wing on the edge of the trunk lid are used. The standard equipment of all versions includes a matrix headlight Digital Light with a function of displaying prompts on the road in the form of various symbols.

The car's interior has the same characteristics typical of AMG models, starting from the "cut-off" at the bottom of the steering wheel and ending with decorative elements painted in red. Perhaps the only unique feature is the engine sound generator, which transmits it to the cabin through the standard acoustics. Moreover, there is an opportunity to choose between several sound modes.
