The development of the car began in the fall of 1976 and for the first few years consisted of determining the concept of the new model and creating a design plan. The next important detail was the body design. It had a classic 3-volume layout with a front-mounted engine and rear-wheel drive. More dynamic versions were equipped with 6-cylinder power units, producing from 160 hp. Later, a 4.2-liter V8 petrol engine with 275 hp was added to them, with which the car accelerated to the first "hundred" in the initial versions in just over 6 seconds. At the end of the life cycle, the sedan did this in 5.9 seconds. The "base" modifications were equipped with 4- and then 5-speed manual transmissions, and in more expensive trim levels - automatic transmissions with the same number of ranges.
