Second Generation

The next-generation car appeared in 2013. It was created on the basis of the standard sedan, differing from it primarily in the engine - a petrol V8, developing 577 horsepower and 900 Nm. The power unit worked in "pair" with a 7-speed automatic transmission AMG SPEEDSHIFT MCT. Additionally, an adaptive chassis with pneumatic elements was already present in the standard equipment. Other important changes included a lithium-ion battery with a capacity of 78 Ah, a high-performance braking system, and a carbon fiber spare wheel niche. Visually, the "charged" version was distinguished by a front bumper with massive air intakes, a radiator grille painted in black gloss. There were fewer differences in the interior, where decorative elements made of matte stainless steel appeared. In 2014, the line of "charged" versions was expanded with the model with the S 65 index. It differed from its predecessor in that it was created on the basis of a sedan with an extended wheelbase and was equipped with a more powerful power unit - a 6-liter V12 with two turbochargers, producing 621 horsepower and 1000 Nm of torque. Externally, the car stood out with a large number of chrome elements. Inside, a leather trim with a diamond-shaped pattern was used, as well as a standard AMG-line decor.

Third Generation

The third-generation car was presented at the end of 2022, almost immediately after the premiere of the new generation S-Class sedans. The key difference from its predecessors was the hybrid powerplant, which debuted earlier in the AMG GT liftback. Under the hood is a 4-liter V8 with a double turbocharger, producing 612 horsepower and 900 Nm, borrowed from its predecessor, but with a "hybrid add-on" in the form of a 14-horsepower starter-generator, which is used when starting from a place. The power unit is now located on active mounts, which significantly reduces vibrations. It works together with a 9-speed planetary transmission with a "wet" clutch and a 4Matic+ all-wheel drive system with a front axle clutch. In turn, an electric motor producing 190 horsepower and 320 Nm is located on the rear axle, supplying torque through a 2-speed transmission and an inter-wheel differential with electronic control. In hybrid mode, the electric motor rotates only the rear wheels, and in fully electric mode, it can supply part of the torque to the front axle, using the standard inter-axle clutch and transfer case for this purpose. The power supply for this module is provided by a lithium-ion battery with a capacity of 31.1 kWh, which allows you to travel up to 33 kilometers on electric power. The total power of the power plant operating in hybrid mode reaches 802 horsepower at a torque of 1430 Nm, which allows you to accelerate to "hundred" in 3.3 seconds.

In terms of equipment, the car stands out with the presence of a pneumatic suspension with electronically controlled shock absorbers and stabilizers, as well as a fully steerable chassis, the rear wheels of which can turn by 2.5 degrees. A visual difference from the standard version, in addition to other bumpers and enlarged exhaust pipes, was the vertical arrangement of the radiator grille bars. The interior is distinguished by a steering wheel with double spokes, a changed graphics of the instrument panel and multimedia system. 20- and 21-inch diameter wheels have become standard for the car.
