Mercedes E-Class AMG is a line of high-performance sedans and wagons of the executive class, created on the basis of standard models. It has been produced since 1996.

First Generation

The "charged" version of the E-class debuted in 1996 and was offered on a limited number of markets in addition to Germany. This was the E 36 version, which is now the rarest. Its 6.3-liter version was installed in the E 60, producing 405 horsepower and 616 Nm of torque. In 1998, a more advanced M113 - a V-shaped "eight" with a volume of 5.4 liters and a power of 354 horsepower - appeared in the production line. This engine was received by the E 55.

Second Generation

The premiere of the second-generation car took place in the fall of 2002, almost a year after the E-Class changed generation. The manufacturer preferred to abandon a large number of versions, presenting only one, which received the index E 55. At that time, this was the fastest production sedan. Under its hood was the M113 - an "atmospheric" gasoline V8 with a volume of 5.4 liters, which with minor changes was taken from the SL 55 AMG, having a slightly lower power of 476 horsepower and 700 Nm of torque due to the use of a smaller diameter and longer exhaust system pipe. The engine was combined with a 5-speed "automatic", which at that time was the only transmission in the nomenclature of the German brand that could withstand such a torque without any problems. Already in the standard equipment, the car received an electronically controlled pneumatic suspension, which not only had three stiffness modes but also allowed changing the ground clearance depending on the speed of movement. The brake system underwent significant changes, receiving 8-piston calipers at the front and enlarged discs, thus solving the most significant problem of the predecessor.

Third Generation

The car of the next generation was presented in 2009. This was a line of versions differing in body type - sedan and wagon. The car received a different index, which largely reflected the key difference from the predecessor. It used a 6.2-liter V8, which was again borrowed from the SL version from AMG. In addition to the engine, the coupe "shared" the chassis, which differed from the "standard" by an extended front track. In 2011, the car underwent an update, within which, for the first time in the history of the model, a turbocharged engine appeared. The 5.5-liter V8 with two turbochargers had the same power characteristics as the "atmospheric" engine with a volume of 6.3 liters. In the fall of 2013, an even more productive version of the S was presented, which differed not only by a 585-horsepower power unit but also by the presence of a 4MATIC all-wheel-drive system in the standard equipment.

Fourth Generation

The high-performance version from AMG appeared in the E-Class line in 2016. Already at the start of sales, the German brand offered several versions, which was due to the desire to close the gap that had formed between the E 63 and the "top" E 400 from the standard line. The engine was taken from this version - a turbocharged V8, which, after modernization, began to produce 396 horsepower and 521 Nm of torque. In 2018, this version was replaced by the E 53, which received a modified version of the 6-cylinder in-line engine M256, which developed 430 horsepower and 520 Nm, which was combined not only with a 9-speed "automatic" but also with the 4MATIC+ all-wheel-drive system. Along with these modifications, the E 63/E 63 S remained in the line, which differed from them and the predecessor by a different power unit. This was still a V8, but with a much smaller volume of 4 liters, which, thanks to two turbochargers, developed 563 or 612 horsepower. This version is the only one in the line that did not receive a "hybrid" addition with a 48-volt starter-generator, which added 22 horsepower and slightly reduced fuel consumption. This was due to market positioning and technical complexities. The system took up a lot of space and significantly increased the transmission switching time due to the need to use a different transmission.
