I've never written a review about anything, but everything happens for the first time.
Over my 17-year driving experience, I've owned a few cars, but every time I've carefully chosen the tires, both summer and winter, and tried to buy only premium tires that are in the top 5 best tires according to tests and customer reviews.
For almost 10 years, I drove a GAZ 3110, where I bought new tires every 2-3 years. I had KAMA (the first), Nokian, and Michelin. This car is still in my garage, and it has Nokian Hakkapeliitta 9 (studded) - winter and Michelin - summer. Both are excellent tires, I have nothing bad to say about them.
I drove a Volkswagen Touareg 2008 for 3 years (winter tires GoodYear Ultra Grip Ice Arctic - was in the top 3 best winter tires) and it handled snow well, but on dry roads, it was like driving a Kamaz all-terrain vehicle, with a terrifying hum, but it decreased over time.
For a year and a half, I had a Volkswagen Tiguan 1.4 all-wheel drive, and for this car, I bought Michelin X-Ice North 4 (17-inch radius) - I can confidently say that it's the best winter tire I've ever driven. If it's winter and studded tires, then only this one. With this car and tire, I conquered the Jily-Su pass in winter (those from the Caucasus should know this place), and I even managed to drive through the mud to the first waterfall, through the field.
Currently, I have two cars in my garage: an Audi Q5 (2020) with Continental ContiVikingContact 7 R19 winter tires (the tire is worth its money) and a BMW X5, which I acquired at the end of 2024... as a result, I had to buy new winter tires, and my choice fell on Michelin X-Ice Snow in 20-inch radius.
After driving on the new Continental for a couple of months on the Audi Q5, I remained very pleased, the tire behaves confidently and predictably in all conditions. It's moderately soft, moderately noisy. Snow, ice, dry, wet weather - everything is fine.
And now, regarding the Michelin X-Ice Snow. After paying for the order on Mosavtoshina, I was forced to return it because I had set the condition that the tire should not be older than 2023. The operator on the site said: "Pay 100%, we'll take it out of the warehouse and see," I paid, they checked, and it was 2021. I waited 2-3 days for the refund, and they returned my money.
On the internet, I found a company that imports tires from abroad, it's 10-15% more expensive, but there's a guarantee that the tires are not older than 2 years. I paid, waited 2 weeks, and went to the warehouse to pick up the wheels.
I got 275/40 R20 front and 315/35 R20 rear (different widths). 2 tires were made in Hungary, and 2 were made in Canada. (I picked up the tires before the New Year, already driven 7,000 km)
Now, to the point. This year's winter has been harsh, and on February 18th, in Stavropol, it's been -8-10°C for a week, and it's been snowing non-stop for 3 days, with snowdrifts over a meter high.
With these tires, I managed to drive in +10+15°C (we had that in January) and in -10°C... snow, ice, rain, slush - in all weather conditions.
Pros of Michelin X-Ice Snow:
+ Soft, almost no noise, softer than summer tires.
+ Handles well on dry and wet roads.
The pros end here, now about the cons, and there are more.
- Snow, ice, slush - this is not their element, it feels like you're not driving on premium tires, but on some cheap, worn-out summer tires.
- Aquaplaning, don't even think about getting into a puddle or wet, snowy slush at speed, the car becomes completely uncontrollable. Fortunately, the Bavarian engineers think about people and make good safety systems.
- On ice, this tire is useless, I don't know who writes those tests where it's always in the top 3, but I wouldn't put it in the top 10.
- In snow, you have to slow down so much in turns that it's easier to get out and push the car yourself, otherwise, you'll skid. You look at other cars, like SsangYong, with envy, which can enter the same turn at a higher speed.
I don't know who's impressed with this tire, maybe they've never had another winter tire before, and they've only driven on summer tires. Continental and studded tires are the only ones for me now. Why didn't I buy Continental, like on the Audi? Simply because they don't have this size, but if they did, I would have bought it without hesitation...
This tire is not worth its money. I would never buy it again. I'll drive it this winter and then sell it.- Vehicle:

Good day. Traditionally, every 4 years I buy tires for the office here. A big plus is that they provide all accounting documents. When I ordered the tires, I had doubts about the country of manufacture. But everything worked out: Michelin X-Ice Snow 235/50 18 tires were made in the 28th calendar week of 2023, manufactured in Canada. For now, I have put them on the shelf in the garage. I will put them on in the fall. Previously, I drove on Michelin X-Ice Xi 2 and then 3, no questions asked. I haven't tested the Snow yet. I'll write back later in the fall.
