Taunus Transit

The predecessor to this model, which used its name, is the Ford Taunus Transit van, first introduced in 1953 as the FK 1000 and produced at a plant in Germany. It was equipped with a 1.2-liter inline-four engine from the Ford Taunus passenger car, which it was named after in 1961.

Mark I

The first-generation vehicle appeared in 1965. The model proved so successful that it remained in production longer than any other - until 1986. The vehicle differed from its European counterparts not only in its exterior design with characteristic features typical of American cars. A key feature was its wide track. In combination with a very robust chassis, this provided a huge advantage in terms of payload capacity. It's also worth noting the front-engine layout, which increased the volume of the cargo area and cabin. Another key to its success was the diversity of modifications with different wheelbase lengths and body types. The engine range consisted of 1.7 and 2-liter Essex petrol engines. They were relatively compact, which allowed for a shorter engine compartment, but not in the case of diesel modifications. These used a 43 hp Perkins engine. To fit it under the hood, it had to be extended, which earned the vehicle the nickname "pig snout". In 1972, it was replaced by the Ford York engine, along with 1.3 to 2-liter petrol engines from the Taunus passenger car. In turn, the version with the extended hood was used to install bulky V6 engines from the Falcon. Such modifications were used in ambulances and police vehicles and became the most sought-after vans in several European countries.

Mark II

The second iteration, with the VE6 index, appeared in the winter of 1986, differing from its predecessor in its completely new exterior design. A distinctive feature of the design was the placement of the windshield and hood at the same angle, which improved aerodynamics and increased capacity. Another innovation was the appearance of a fully independent front suspension, which improved handling. At the same time, the engine range remained largely unchanged, except for the V6 Essex engines with a carburetor fuel system, which were replaced by a more modern 2.9-liter Cologne analog. In this form, the vehicle was produced until 1994, when it underwent a major modernization. It received a new front end and dashboard, as well as a 2-liter 8-valve engine from the Ford Scorpio.

Mark III

In the third generation, the vehicle, presented in 2000, again changed its exterior design, borrowing styling solutions from Ford's New Edge corporate design of the time. A technical innovation was the presence in the range of modifications with both front-wheel and rear-wheel drive. The engine range was formed from Duratorq engines, partially borrowed from the Mondeo and Jaguar X-Type passenger cars. In 2002, modifications with diesel engines with a Common Rail system appeared, as well as an economical and reliable 2-liter HPCR petrol engine.

Mark IV

In 2013, the brand presented a van of the fourth generation, which was developed in the USA and initially intended for sale, including in North America. The predecessors were absent from the continent due to Ford's reluctance to create competition for the Ecoline range. Another innovation was the appearance of a full-fledged family of commercial vehicles, divided into several more specialized lines, which had significant differences in both layout and dimensions. The base model, which retained the original name, was a classic van with rear-wheel drive and three wheelbase options. At the same time, in all cases, the chassis was a monocoque structure using high-strength steel grades, which made it possible to increase payload capacity. In 2020, the vehicle underwent a minor modernization, receiving an updated front end and dashboard, as well as optimization of the engine range, which reduced the number of engines presented in it. However, modifications with "hybrid" or fully electric powertrains were also introduced.
