The Ford Edge currently represents a line of mid-size crossovers initially developed for the North American market. The car got its name from one of the trim levels of the Ranger pickup truck. U387 Model

The premiere of the car took place in 2006 in Detroit. It was created on the CD3 platform of its own design, sharing it with the Linkoln MKX, an analogous crossover, but with higher-quality interior materials and extensive equipment. In the standard trim, this model offered fabric upholstery, air conditioning, a stereo system with a CD player, and 17-inch alloy wheels. The engine range consisted of gasoline engines. In the first years of production, the base was a V-shaped "six" with a volume of 3.5 liters and a power of 266 hp, with a torque of 339 Nm. In 2011, it was replaced by a 4-cylinder turbocharged engine with a volume of 2 liters from the Ecoboost family, which was less powerful, 240 hp, but more torque, delivering up to 366 Nm to the wheels. The most dynamic versions were equipped with a Duratec engine with a volume of 3.7 liters, which developed 305 hp and 380 Nm. In all modifications, the car was equipped with a 6-speed hydro-mechanical "automatic" 6F50. Essentially, the only difference between the versions was the all-wheel-drive system. In the standard trim, the car had only front-wheel drive.

CD539 Model

In 2015, the car underwent a major update. The second generation, in addition to the design, differed from the new CD4 platform, a modified version of its predecessor, on which the brand's previous mid-size passenger cars, the Galaxy and S-Max, were created. The engine range changed significantly. The 2-liter Ecoboost remained in it as the "base", but received a new supercharger with a "double spiral", which made it possible to significantly increase the torque at low revs. In the middle trim level, the car received the previous 3.5-liter V6, the power of which was slightly reduced. The top versions received the "sporty" name ST and a new 6-cylinder V-shaped Ecoboost engine with a volume of 2.7 liters with double turbocharging and a power of 335 hp. In 2016, the manufacturer began supplying this model to Europe. Crossovers intended for this market were equipped exclusively with 2-liter Duratorq diesel engines with a power of 180 or 210 hp, with 6-speed "mechanics" and robotic gearboxes PowerShift, and exclusively with front-wheel drive. The model was positioned as a large premium-class car and was offered at prices 50% higher than in North America. Low sales on both sides of the Atlantic predetermined the removal of the crossover from production in the spring of 2024 without a successor.
