Both power units received a system to protect against overheating in the event of significant coolant leaks. It alternately turned off half of the cylinders, through which air was pumped, reducing the temperature. In this mode, the engine allowed you to drive a relatively short distance to the nearest service station. In addition to gasoline engines, diesel engines were installed in the pickup truck. At the start of sales, this was a V8 with a volume of 7.3 liters of the Power Stroke family, which was removed from the power range in 2003 due to non-compliance with noise requirements. Instead, a 6-liter engine of the same design began to be installed. The smaller working volume was offset by the use of a turbocharger with a variable blade angle, which made it possible to increase power to 325 horsepower.

Second Generation

The second-generation pickup truck debuted at the end of 2006 as part of the update of the entire Super Duty line. It differed from other representatives of the line with a cargo platform that was previously available only when choosing a chassis with a cabin. Another innovation was the choice of two transmission gear ratios, which depended on the towing capacity, which was 9.3 or 11.1 tons. But only one Crew Cab with four doors was available for ordering. In addition to it, all versions of the pickup truck were equipped with double wheels at the back, a rear differential lock, forged aluminum Alcoa wheels with a mounting diameter of 19.5 inches, and a trailer towing control system. The engine range consisted only of one engine - a 6.4-liter diesel V8 with turbocharging, which worked in "pair" with a 6-speed automatic transmission, or with an optional 5-range "automatic" TorqShift.

Third Generation

The next generation of pickup trucks appeared in 2011, a year after the update of the entire Super Duty series. And again, it was available only with a standard 4-door cabin and a 2-row salon with a width of 2.4 meters. Another difference from the predecessor was the absence of a 4x4 transmission. The car had a rear axle drive only. In essence, this was a modernization of the predecessor, which preserved almost all technical components and characteristics.

Fourth Generation

The fourth-generation pickup truck was presented in 2015. This was a truly new model that used the T platform of the third generation, thanks to which the "Godzilla" appeared in the line of power units. This is a gasoline V8 with a volume of 7.3 liters with a cast-iron block and an aluminum cylinder head, a lower location of the camshaft, and two valves per cylinder. The "base" remained the same V10 with a volume of 6.8 liters. In addition to them, there are modifications with a diesel power unit with a volume of 6.7 liters in the line. This is also an engine from the previous model, but it has undergone another cycle of modernization, within which the turbine, injector, cylinder head, block, pistons, and bearings were updated. The previous 6-range "automatic" was replaced with a 10-speed one. The new unit is not larger in size than its predecessor, weighing only 1.6 kg more.

In 2021, the pickup truck underwent a minor update, which mainly affected the salon. The front panel of the top versions was equipped with a 12-inch display and a multimedia system Sync 4th iteration, for which it was necessary to move the air vents and most of the buttons. In addition, a different block of climate control appeared, which was taken from the F-150 pickup truck. The standard equipment of this model still has a 4.2-inch screen.
