The car, which debuted in 1968, was a compact pickup truck with a 1.1-liter gasoline engine, producing 58 horsepower, designed for transporting cargo weighing up to 600 kilograms. Further modernization of the model affected the exterior to a lesser extent and the power unit to a greater extent, the volume of which increased to 1.4 liters.

Second Generation

In 1979, the Japanese brand presented a car of the second iteration, which practically had no technical connection with its predecessor. Mainly due to the use of a different platform, which not only increased the dimensions to the maximum values allowed by Japanese law but also offered a combined suspension with double levers, shock absorbers, and springs at the front, and springs and a non-split axle at the rear. The lineup of versions was significantly expanded - ten passenger and cargo modifications. Three years later, a four-wheel-drive system became available for most of them, for the first time among compact vans of Japanese brands, borrowed from the Pajero SUV. The engine range consisted of gasoline and diesel "fours" with volumes from 1.5 to 2.5 liters, some of which are still used today.

Third Generation

In the summer of 1986, the debut of the third-generation model took place. The key difference was the change in the layout, due to the appearance of a bearing body, which, in turn, became much more efficient in terms of aerodynamics than its predecessor. The car stood out against its background by the absence of a version with a board body in the lineup, which was added in 1994, and the presence of modifications with an extended wheelbase. Due to its popularity outside of Japan, this model had an extremely wide range of engines, including nine gasoline and diesel engines with volumes from 1.4 to 2.6 liters. A significant part of the power units was combined with the four-wheel-drive system from the Pajero SUV, but in a modified version, which is why many components were not interchangeable.

Fourth Generation

The technical connection with the Pajero SUV was preserved in the car of the fourth iteration, presented in 1994 and sharing with it the engine range and transmission. The key difference was the use of a bearing body, which, in comparison with its predecessor, changed significantly, getting, in particular, a droplet-shaped profile. Short overhangs and increased ground clearance in combination with four-wheel drive, a lowered range in the transmission, and differential locks provided the van with wide opportunities off paved roads, which predetermined the popularity of the model not only in Southeast Asia but also in our country.

Fifth Generation

In the fall of 2007, the release of the fifth-generation model took place, which differed from its predecessor by a significantly changed concept, essentially being at the junction of two classes - crossovers and minivans. From the first, the car inherited the chassis and transmission, and from the second - a 5-door body with sliding rear doors. It was created on the GS platform, sharing it with the Outlander crossover, along with most of the technical components, including the AWC all-wheel-drive system, INVECS III transmission, and engine range. The body, developed from scratch, stood out with a number of distinctive features. First of all, this is the design of the bumpers, divided into separate sections, which, in the event of mechanical damage, can be replaced individually. The "power cage" of the body was optimized, where not only high-strength but also corrosion-resistant steel is used, from which the floor panel is made.

In terms of equipment, the car corresponded to mid-range passenger cars. Already in the base configuration, a servo drive of the rear door, xenon headlights, a stability control system, a 2-zone climate control with air filtration from external odors, LED interior lighting were available. The list of additional equipment included parking sensors, a 12-channel Rockford audio system, side airbags for all three rows of seats, cruise control, satellite navigation.
