Mitsubishi RVR is a line of compact passenger cars. The model debuted in 1991 as a compact minivan, which was produced until 2002, after which it was discontinued. The abbreviation returned to the production line of the Japanese brand in 2010, but was used in relation to a completely different car - a compact crossover, which is still being produced.Minivan
The car debuted in the winter of 1991, representing a compact minivan, which was better known as the Space Runner. Technically, it was a second-generation Chariot with a shortened chassis by 20 cm with components from the standard version of this minivan. From many "classmates", the car was distinguished by its high body height and a sliding door on the passenger side. It was attached to the middle pillar, which was a unique feature for this class. The engine range initially consisted of a 2-liter gasoline engine. Later, turbodiesel modifications with a 1.8-liter power unit appeared in the lineup. Just before the production of the first-generation car was discontinued, the Japanese brand introduced a "charged" version of the Sports Gear with a 2-liter turbocharged "four" from the Lancer Evolution, a four-wheel drive system, and a 4-speed automatic transmission from the Galant VR-4.In 1997, the second generation debuted. Already at the start of sales, this was a lineup of models that differed significantly in concept. The GDI version was focused on the widest possible range of buyers, representing a versatile car. Sports Gear differed in its "off-road" and "sports" claims, thanks to engines - a 2.4-liter gasoline engine from the Pajero and a 2-liter turbocharged "four" 4G63 from the "Evolution". In 1999, the car was significantly updated externally, and two years later, it was discontinued.
Crossover
In 2010, the car returned to the production line of the Japanese brand, but as a compact crossover. The RVR abbreviation was used in relation to models for the domestic Japanese market, as well as South Korea and Canada. The car was created on the same platform as the more spacious Outlander crossover, but in a shortened version with a smaller wheelbase, along with most of the technical components. The engine range varied greatly depending on the sales region. For the domestic Japanese market, the crossover was offered with an alternative 1.8-liter 4-cylinder gasoline engine, which could be combined with either a manual transmission or a continuous variable transmission INVECS-III. In other markets where the car was available, modifications with 2- and 2.4-liter gasoline engines were offered. In the fall of 2022, the Japanese brand introduced the next generation. Technically, it is a copy of the Renault Captur with minimal differences in external design, which means the absence of a four-wheel drive system in principle. The "basic" crossover is equipped with a 1-liter turbocharged inline-three engine with 91 horsepower, working in conjunction with a 6-speed manual transmission. The most "popular" versions offer a hybrid powertrain, in which a 1.3-liter turbocharged inline-four is connected to a starter-generator through a belt drive. The total power of this installation is 140 horsepower for "mechanical" versions and 158 horsepower for cars with a 7-speed "robot". There are two more "hybrid" modifications in the lineup. One of them uses the E-Tech from Renault, which has a three-shaft transmission with a gasoline "atmospheric" engine with a volume of 1.6 liters on one side and a traction electric motor on the other. The second "hybrid" version is the same gasoline engine H4M together with a traction electric motor, a battery with a capacity of 1.3 kWh. The start of movement is carried out exclusively on electric traction, after which the internal combustion engine is connected. For these purposes, the transmission provides 2 stages for the electric motor and four more for the gasoline power unit. The car, due to its concept, does not impose special requirements on tires and disks, which is why in the online store "Mosavtoshina" it is not difficult to find several suitable options for it.
