The Mitsubishi Xpander Cross is one of the versions of the compact minivan of the Japanese brand, distinguished by its extended capabilities on unpaved roads. The appearance of this model is due to the "original" Xpander, which was introduced in 2017 and proved to be commercially successful. This is largely due to the concept of the car, which is at the intersection of two segments - crossovers and minivans. Formally, it belongs to the latter and initially had a Sport version. This version is positioned by the Japanese brand as "off-road". External changes were limited to the use of LED headlights, a different radiator grille, as well as plastic "cladding" around the body, which has "expanded" in width by 50 mm due to this. Already in the standard equipment, there are luggage rails on the roof, additional sound and vibration insulation.In technical terms, there were many more changes. First of all, this is the ground clearance, which has been increased to 225 mm due to the use of shock absorbers with an increased stroke length and springs with an additional turn. The car uses tires with a higher profile. One of the few drawbacks is the lack of a four-wheel drive system. This is mainly due to the pricing of the minivan, which has a simple chassis design with MacPherson struts at the front and a semi-independent beam at the rear. Another sign of this approach is the presence of drum-type brake mechanisms at the rear. The engine range is represented by one engine - an in-line "gasoline" four-cylinder with a volume of 1.5 liters, producing 105 hp and 141 Nm of torque. Depending on the version, the power unit works in "pair" with a 5-speed manual gearbox or a 4-range hydromechanical "automatic". It was later replaced by a more modern and suitable for this engine continuously variable transmission (CVT).
In 2021, the car underwent an update. It mainly affected the exterior, which was brought in line with the corporate style. The interior features a completely redesigned front panel with a more rigorous design. There is a new steering wheel, button control for the microclimate, an electromechanical "handbrake", an armrest between the front seats, and a new multimedia system with control via a "floating" tablet. At the same time, the interior retained its 3-row layout and the ability to simultaneously transport up to 7 passengers. Another difference from the predecessor is the appearance in the most expensive versions of wheel disks and tires with an increased diameter of up to 17 inches.
