Mitsubishi Space Star – a model from the Japanese company, produced in hatchback bodies with five doors and compact vans. It is presented in two generations with intermediate restyling.

Historical background

The car was presented in 1998. The manufacturer wanted to make it lightweight, economical, and moderately environmentally friendly. For these purposes, some body elements were made from special steel alloys that are distinguished by their low weight. As a result, it was possible to create the lightest car in the segment. The suspension on both axes is independent: a multi-link suspension is installed at the rear, and a MacPherson suspension is installed at the front. It allowed achieving good handling and a high level of comfort.

The model existed on the conveyor until 2005. And the next generation appeared only in 2012. The fact is that the manufacturer decided to replace the "Space Star" with the "Colt" model. But time showed that it was necessary to return to the previously produced "star".

In 2012, a new generation of the car was presented, which reached Europe only in 2013. The main difference was the body, which now represented a hatchback. A more modern exterior with sports notes (for example, the presence of a large spoiler above the rear door) significantly increased the popularity of the car. To this, we should add the use of low-displacement engines with a volume of 1.2 and 1.0 liters. In combination with the "start-stop" system, they demonstrated record fuel consumption rates - just over 4 liters per 100 kilometers. The car received a front MacPherson suspension, and a semi-independent torsion suspension was installed at the rear. The braking system at the front was represented by disc brakes, and at the rear - by drum brakes.

Present day

In 2019, a deep restyling of the last generation was carried out, which significantly transformed the car, including in technical terms. A 1.2-liter gasoline engine with an "environmental" assistant and a "start-stop" system is used as a power unit. The suspension was redesigned, the springs and some blocks were replaced, which affected the level of comfort. The efficiency of the braking system has been improved due to the replacement of brake pads.
