Access to them appeared thanks to Volvo, which at that time actively cooperated with the French company, creating, among other things, power units, including the 1.9-liter DI-D used in this model with a power of 100 hp. Later, modifications with a 1.8-liter GDI engine from Mitsubishi appeared in the lineup, in which fuel was injected not into the intake manifold, but directly into the combustion chamber. This allowed increasing the power by 10% and reducing fuel consumption by 20%.

The distinctive feature of the car's design was the absence of any expressive features. This was due to the Japanese manufacturer's desire to interest European buyers with this model, who at that time were considered the most conservative in their representations of such products. Nevertheless, this did not save the car from restyling in 1999, as a result of which it received a new front part, salon, trunk lid with an integrated "anti-wing" and rear lights. In addition, the standard equipment was significantly expanded, receiving ABS. The most significant technical update was the expansion of the front track and the change in the chassis settings, which received other shock absorbers and springs, increasing the energy capacity of the suspension. Nevertheless, this did not help with sales, as a result of which the car was removed from serial production already in 2004, and its name was not used again.
