In Mitsubishi's production lineup, the Airtrek crossover first appeared in Japan in 2001, while its Chinese version debuted much later, in 2022. Each version is adapted to the specifics of local roads, climate, and consumer preferences, with the Japanese model receiving several trim levels aimed at different market segments, allowing it to be used both as an urban and family vehicle.

    Japanese Versions

The first-generation vehicle was a copy of the Outlander crossover for the domestic Japanese market. The engine range consisted of 2 and 2.4-liter gasoline "fours" with 130 and 160 horsepower, and later a turbocharged 2-liter engine with 200 horsepower was added. The base versions had front-wheel drive, while the more equipped ones had a four-wheel-drive system with a "proprietary" implementation through a viscous coupling, which could vary the torque distribution between the axles within a wide range. The interior was distinguished by simplicity and functionality: high seating, comfortable seats, and a wide view made it suitable for both urban conditions and travel.

The second generation, which appeared in 2006, differed in increased dimensions and expanded functionality. This was largely due to the appearance of a new 2.4-liter engine with the MIVEC system and a modernized four-wheel-drive system with electronic control. The car's interior became more thoughtful, with improved ergonomics, multimedia options, and an increased level of safety. There were ABS, EBD systems, as well as a full set of airbags, which reflected the market's trend towards higher passenger protection standards.

In 2012, the third generation of the car finally became an exact copy of the "global" Outlander. Compared to its predecessor, the car became 90 kg lighter, and the thoroughly revised body design reduced the air resistance coefficient to 0.33, which, on the one hand, reduced fuel consumption, and on the other hand, provided a much higher level of acoustic comfort. In addition, a version with a hybrid power unit and an "advanced" four-wheel-drive system S-AWC appeared in the lineup, which was largely borrowed from the "charged" Lancer Evolution sedan. In turn, the interior became compliant with modern standards, with displays, adaptive cruise control, and multimedia of the latest generation.

    Chinese Version

In 2021, the crossover debuted for the Chinese market. This was a development of a joint venture with GAC in China, which was initially created for sale in the domestic market of this country. The car was built on the same platform as the Aion V "crossover" from the Chinese GAC, sharing with it most of the technical components. First of all, this is an electric power unit with a peak power of up to 218 horsepower and a torque of up to 350 Nm. The power source was a 70 kWh battery located in a niche under the floor, which provided a range of up to 520 kilometers. The design was made in the current style for the Japanese brand, as well as the interior, offering two displays - the instrument panel and the multimedia system, along with a complex of electronic assistants: adaptive cruise control, lane departure warning, and automatic emergency braking.

19-inch wheels and 55% profile tires were standard for this crossover, providing an optimal balance between the main driving qualities. In the "Mosavtoshina" online store, original and alternative wheels for this car are available.
