A frame-based SUV with a rich history, which began in 1985. It was then that the Japanese manufacturer introduced a compact three-door car, distinguished by its excellent off-road capabilities. This was the case throughout the first two generations, after which, due to a change in the ownership of the parent company, it turned into a classic urban crossover with a bearing body.Generation 1
The first modification, presented in 1986, had only three doors. The car was assembled both in Japan and in the United States, where it was released under the name "Passfinder". Only one engine was installed under the hood - a 2.7-liter diesel engine. The front independent and rear dependent suspension of the reinforced design allowed for easy overcoming of off-road terrain. This made the car so popular among outdoor enthusiasts. Moreover, the trim levels could be both rear-wheel drive and all-wheel drive with differential lock.In 1990, as part of a restyling, a five-door version was also presented, which had one feature. The handles of the rear doors were located near the window. This was done to hide them, while the model itself looked like a three-door version. In addition, a more powerful V6 engine with a volume of 3 liters began to be installed. Among the features, we also highlight the versatility of the platform, which served as the basis for the creation of a series of pickups equipped with a 2- or 4-seat cabin.
Generation 2
The second generation became more laconic in design. The aggression and brutality disappeared. The fact is that the exterior was handled by an Italian agency. Moreover, the car was no longer based on a frame structure. Despite this, the appearance and design solutions were successful, so the "Terrano" of the second generation existed on the assembly line without global changes for 13 years. It was even sold as the Ford Mistral (based on the concluded agreement). Under the hood, there were now two gasoline engines with a volume of 3 and 3.3 liters, as well as a 2.7 and 3-liter diesel engine. Significant changes underwent the front suspension, which was replaced by a MacPherson design. As for the rear suspension, it remained unchanged. The salon became more comfortable, ergonomic and sporty.Until 2006, the model was released under the name "Terrano", and later the manufacturer renamed it to "Passfinder" for all markets.
Generation 3
In 2013, already under the management of the Renault concern, a new generation of "Terrano" was presented. It shared a common platform with "Duster". From the latter, the car differed in the Nissan corporate style, more expensive interior materials, and rich technical equipment. As power units, gasoline engines with a volume of 1.6 and 2 liters were used, as well as a 1.5-liter diesel engine, supplemented with a turbine. The model became front-wheel drive with independent front suspension. A version with automatically connectable all-wheel drive was also presented. Two transmissions were offered - a 5-speed mechanics and a 4-speed automatic.At the moment, the 3rd generation is the current one, regularly undergoing modernizations, which, for the most part, concern technical equipment: a touch screen, a rear-view camera, blind spot sensors, a collision warning system, etc.
