The Nissan Armada has been present in the production lineup of the Japanese brand since 2003, when it debuted in the US as the Pathfinder. Initially, the car was a classic frame SUV, but then, with the change in buyer preferences, it transformed into a full-size SUV, primarily intended for the North American market.First Generation
The car, presented in the spring of 2003, was a classic SUV created on the basis of the frame pickup Titan, borrowing most of its mechanical components from it. The car was equipped with a V-shaped gasoline "eight" with a volume of 5.6 liters, producing 305 hp and 522 Nm. It worked in tandem with a 5-speed hydro-mechanical "automatic" and rear or all-wheel drive. Like the Titan, the car stood out from the background of most "classmates" with its excellent towing capabilities, as it could tow a trailer weighing up to 4 tons. In its exterior design, the car was distinguished by the hidden door handles in the rear posts, which was a tribute to tradition - a similar solution was used in the Pathfinder SUV, starting from 1986.In 2008, the car underwent an update, a significant part of which fell on the interior and equipment. In particular, the standard package included a multimedia system with an 8-inch touch screen, a front panel with an updated design, keyless entry, and electrically folding second-row seats.
Second Generation
The car of the next generation appeared only in 2016. This time it was a copy of the full-size Patrol SUV. Its North American version differed from others in its bumpers, radiator grille with a smaller cell, and a salon with a 3-row layout, for which "captain's" chairs on the middle row could be ordered as an option. The standard equipment could "boast" of a multimedia system with satellite navigation, front seats with electric adjustments and ventilation, LED headlights, and an electrically heated steering wheel.In terms of technology, the car was almost identical to the "global" Patrol, sharing with it the only power unit - a gasoline V-shaped "six" with a volume of 5.6 liters. But in the modified version, it differed in lower power, reduced from 405 to 395 hp. The engine worked in "pair" with a 7-speed automatic transmission. The base versions were equipped with rear-wheel drive, but among the additional options, all-wheel drive was available along with a transfer case.
In 2020, the car underwent a fairly large-scale modernization, but at the same time, it became much less similar to the Patrol, which was updated a year earlier. The SUV stood out with a more aggressive front bumper design, featuring a massive plastic insert of silver color. The radiator grille also had an authentic look, differing in massive bars and black color. The current logo of the Japanese brand is used on it. The salon is much more different, executed in a more conservative style than the Patrol. Above the front console, a 12.3-inch display of the multimedia system rises, under which classic rectangular air vents, a classic climate control panel with physical buttons and handles are located. In turn, on the central tunnel, there are not one, but two "shells" that are used to control the transmission and multimedia system. The instrument panel combines analog scales of the speedometer and tachometer and a miniature 7-inch display between them. The rearview mirror also features an integrated screen that displays the image from the rearview camera. This option was also present in the previous model, but it had a display that was half as small. Another feature of the standard equipment of the updated version was the presence of a complex of electronic assistants Safety Shield 360, but only with adaptive cruise, without autopilot.
Third Generation
In the fall of 2024, the car of the third generation debuted. This time, it was again created on the basis of the Patrol, but both models repeated the simplified versions of the Infiniti QX80, presented in the spring of the same year. The format of the car and the concept of its use remained unchanged. External differences were limited to other body panels, lighting fixtures, and the use of classic door handles instead of retractable ones.Technically, the SUV largely repeated the QX80, significantly differing from its predecessor for the better. The new frame had increased stiffness on bending and torsion, and the chassis, although it remained the same in terms of layout, stood out with an increased track and the possibility of ordering a more advanced pneumatic suspension with electronic control from the same Infiniti instead of classic springs and shock absorbers. The ground clearance of the standard version of the SUV increased significantly, adding 13 mm, making it 244 mm. Another "borrowing" from Infiniti was the absence of a mechanical connection with the brake system, which is controlled exclusively by wire. Under the hood, there were no "atmospheric" engines. At the start of sales, the car was available with a V6 engine with a volume of 3.5 liters and two turbochargers, producing 425 hp and 700 Nm. The power unit works in "pair" with a 9-speed "automatic", the power range of which has been increased by 40%. And, as before, the standard equipment implies the use of rear-wheel drive. The clutch that connects the front wheels is available for an extra charge, and in this case, it is possible to tow loads weighing up to 3.9 tons.
The list of equipment options includes an "off-road" Pro-4X. It differs in a front bumper of a different design, which increases the approach angle almost twice - up to 33 degrees. The bottom of the car is covered with metal panels, and an electronically controlled differential lock is present on the rear axle.
