Tires on Nissan Pickup (Ниссан)
The mid-size pickup has been in the Japanese brand's production range since 1985. During the production run, the model has undergone several transformations, from a utilitarian commercial vehicle to a modern, versatile vehicle, an alternative to SUVs and crossovers. A significant portion of the produced vehicles were intended for countries in Asia, the Middle East, Africa, and Latin America. Notably, pickups of different generations were often produced in parallel - "Nissan" was not much different from other brands, retaining "old" versions that continued to be in demand due to their combination of lower costs.Generation D21
The pickup, which debuted in 1985, received the D21 index, becoming a landmark model for the Japanese brand, as it broke the tradition of creating such vehicles exclusively as utilitarian transport. The difference from its predecessors was the much better ergonomics and comfort, along with a wide range of execution options.
The model was still based on a classic ladder frame with a non-separable bridge and leaf springs at the rear. At the front, both independent torsions and a semi-dependent beam were used. Already at that time, "Nissan" offered a pickup with several options for wheelbase length, single and double-row cabins.
For D21, gasoline and diesel engines with a volume of 2.0 to 3.0 liters were used. One of the most famous was the 2.7-liter TD27 diesel engine, which, in its turbocharged version, developed around 99 horsepower and was distinguished by high reliability even in harsh operating conditions. The 2.4-liter KA24E gasoline engine with a power of up to 134 horsepower was also used. Torque was transmitted through a 5-speed manual transmission or a 4-speed "automatic". The standard equipment for versions with four-wheel drive was a transfer case with a "reduced" range. The simplicity of the technical solutions ensured that the D21 gained a reputation as an "indestructible" pickup, reliable in operation in the most difficult conditions.
By today's standards, the equipment of this pickup may seem maximally ascetic, but for the second half of the 1980s, the presence, albeit in top versions, of electric windows, air conditioners, and seats with soft padding, along with high-quality plastic, was considered extraordinary.
Generation D22
In 1997, the next-generation pickup with the D22 index was released. The car retained the technical part from its predecessor, differing in a more "civilian" design, which, in particular, offered better visibility from the inside due to the large area of glazing. The most important innovation was the appearance under the hood of the YD25 series diesel engine. The 2.5-liter turbocharged unit developed up to 174 horsepower and 403 Nm of torque. It was combined with 5- and 6-speed manual transmissions or a 4-range "automatic". The noise insulation was significantly improved, vibrations were reduced, and the steering became more precise. The front suspension provided more stable behavior at high speeds, allowing the D22 to be used not only as a work vehicle but also as a versatile family transport.
It was here that the Japanese brand began to actively introduce equipment characteristic of passenger cars. In expensive versions, there were leather trim, audio systems with CD changers, climate control, and airbags. For a number of markets, four-door Double Cab models were offered, which quickly became the most popular modifications.
Generation D40
In 2004, the production of the third-generation pickup, which received the D40 index, began. With its release, the model changed not only externally but also conceptually. To a large extent, this was due to the increased dimensions - the pickup approached mid-size pickups, primarily of North American brands. The larger wheelbase than before provided more space inside the cabin. The significantly increased stiffness of the frame increased the payload capacity of the platform. In top versions, a multi-link independent rear suspension appeared, which significantly improved the behavior of the pickup on asphalt roads.
Most of the produced vehicles were equipped with a 2.5-liter diesel engine from the predecessor, which underwent another cycle of modernization. Later, versions with a 3-liter V6 diesel engine with an output of 231 horsepower and 550 Nm appeared in the lineup. Depending on the trim level, a 6-speed manual transmission or a 5- and 7-speed "automatic" was used. The car significantly surpassed its predecessors in terms of traction capabilities and noise insulation level. The pickup retained high off-road capability thanks to the connectable four-wheel drive and reduced transmission.
The salon became closer to Nissan crossovers of that period. The equipment included multimedia systems with navigation, 2-zone climate control, electric seat adjustments, and rearview cameras.
Generation D23
In 2014, another generation of pickups with the D23 index debuted. This model continued the evolution towards a universal vehicle with a maximum range of usage scenarios. Here, there was a clear desire to reduce operating costs, improve manageability, and comfort on roads with asphalt coverage. One of the main features was the rear multi-link suspension on Double Cab versions, thanks to which the behavior on asphalt became noticeably softer and more stable. At the same time, the load characteristics remained at a high level.
An important technical innovation was the 2.3-liter turbocharged diesel engine, which, depending on the version, developed 160 or 190 horsepower and a torque of up to 450 Nm. It was combined with a 6-speed manual transmission or a 7-range "automatic". At the final stage of the production cycle, the pickup offered systems of circular review, multimedia with a large touch screen, adaptive cruise control, and an expanded complex of electronic assistants. This finally transformed the initially utilitarian pickup into a multi-purpose vehicle for buyers leading an active lifestyle.
Depending on the generation, wheels with a diameter of 15 to 18 inches were used, with tires in sizes from 235/75 to 255/60. For frame vehicles, it is especially important to correctly select kits by load index and resistance to damage, since operation is often associated with cargo transportation and movement on poor roads. In the online store "Mosavtoshina", you can select both universal all-season options and specialized kits for specific ground coverings.
