The commercial van Nissan e-NV200 was released in 2012 in North America. At that time, the model existed as a concept, its serial production began a year later and continued until 2017. It represented an electric version of the NV200 from 2009, differing in the power unit borrowed from the city compact Leaf. The concept was to use a time-tested and popular platform, but with low operating costs and "zero" emissions of hazardous substances. In the lineup of the Japanese brand, this car occupied an intermediate position between compact "light" vans and specialized electric models. The differences from the standard model turned out to be more significant than the replacement of the power unit.Integration of the electric power unit
The same platform is used as the basis, as in the regular NV200, but after significant modernization, as a result of which a compartment for installing a traction battery with a capacity of 24 kWh appeared in it, located under the floor within the wheelbase and integrated into the power structure of the body. This made it possible to preserve the cargo space and at the same time increase the torsional and bending strength. The dimensions have changed slightly - the electric version has become wider and longer.
The single electric motor produces up to 109 horsepower and 254 Nm of torque at peak loads, rotating the wheels through a planetary gearbox. This scheme provides smooth acceleration with linearity in control, up to 120 km/h, when the limiter is automatically activated, preventing excessive stress on the components of the electric power unit. The range without recharging is 170 kilometers, which corresponds to the concept of this van, implying its use exclusively within the city limits. It is worth noting the use of a charging device designed to work with both direct and alternating current with a source power of up to 50 and 6.6 kW, respectively. This allows for two charging options: fast during the day in a few dozen minutes, "night" - in 8-10 hours.
In addition to the power unit, part of the chassis was borrowed from the "Nissan Leaf" - the front suspension with McPherson struts. At the back, components from the standard NV200 are used - a semi-dependent beam and leaf springs.
Differences from NV200 engine
The differences between the models are systemic and affect all key nodes. The changes in the exterior are minimal, but noticeable: the e-NV200 received a unique front end with a charging port in the center and a different design of the radiator grille. From a design point of view, the key difference is the absence of a traditional power unit and transmission. Instead, a fully electric architecture is used with a battery integrated into the floor, which improves weight distribution and body stiffness.
The interior of the e-NV200 is generally identical to the "original", but supplemented with specific control elements for the electric system. There are indicators of the charge level, modes of operation of the recuperation system, and an energy consumption control interface. The level of equipment in the electric modification is often higher due to the focus on corporate fleets. This is especially true for passenger versions of the model.
Practicality and usage scenarios
The van was created as a tool for urban transportation. Its key advantage is low operating costs and the absence of harmful emissions, which makes it convenient for work in areas with environmental restrictions.
