Nissan Terra is a mid-size SUV. The car debuted in the spring of 2018, being intended for China, the Middle East, Africa, and Australia. In the production line of the Japanese brand, this model occupies an intermediate position between the compact X-Trail crossover and the flagship Patrol. Conceptually, the SUV is a successor to the third-generation Pathfinder, which was produced from 2005 to 2012, based on the Navara pickup truck.

Creation History

Development began as early as 2011. Initially, the key countries for the sale of this model were identified as the Middle East and China. On the verge of 2014 and 2015, all work was suspended due to the high popularity of the third generation X-Trail, and the management of the Japanese brand feared that another car in the same segment would create internal competition. Another reason for the suspension of the project was the emergence of updated versions of the main competitors of the prospective model - Toyota Fortuner, Mitsubishi Pajero Sport, and Ford Everest. Nissan took a pause to evaluate their own development and try to improve it. In addition, at that time, in Thailand, one of the key markets for the sale of SUVs and pickup trucks Nissan, the tax calculation structure based on the number of harmful emissions from car engines changed. First of all, this is a 2.5-liter gasoline "four", developing 180 hp. and 251 Nm at 4000 rpm, which is installed on the "base" versions. Much more suitable for this car are diesel engines with a volume of 2.3 and 2.5 liters, developing 190 hp. and 450 Nm. The less voluminous power unit has two turbochargers, differing in "peak" maximum torque, shifted to the zone of low revs. All engines are combined with 6-speed manual or 7-range automatic transmissions. The all-wheel-drive system is a classic "part-time" with electronic control of the front axle connection. The chassis differs from the pickup truck by the presence of springs in the rear suspension, along with a differential lock and a ground clearance of 243 mm.

Another difference from the pickup truck was the interior. It prevails with features characteristic of modern Japanese brand crossovers. First of all, this is a virtual instrument panel, which is a color 7-inch display. In the standard configuration, there is an 8- or 9-inch screen of the multimedia system with voice control and CarPlay interface, located above the central console. It is also worth noting the use of two-layer windshield and side glasses. And in the list of additional equipment, there is a Bose audio system, a separate "multimedia" diagonal of 11 inches for rear passengers, a salon mirror with an image from the rear-view camera, a complex of electronic assistants Safety Shield with automatic braking function, road marking and sign recognition, cameras around view.
