The Nissan Pathfinder is a line of mid-size SUVs. It has been in production since 1986. In late 1995, the brand introduced the second-generation SUV. The vehicle underwent a complete redesign while retaining the concept of its predecessor. The engine lineup included an improved V6 producing 168 horsepower instead of 140. As part of the 2000 facelift, it was replaced by a new V6 with 240 horsepower. At the same time, inline-four engines were discontinued.

The third-generation SUV was released in 2004. It used the new F-Alpha platform at that time. The fourth-generation SUV, introduced in the second half of 2012, significantly differed from its predecessor. It no longer used a ladder frame, instead featuring a unibody design and a platform shared with Nissan's mid-size cars and crossovers, primarily the Infiniti QX60, which also shared its interior. At the start of sales, the SUV was offered with a 3.5-liter V6 engine producing 260 horsepower, paired with a continuously variable transmission from Jatco. This made it significantly more fuel-efficient than its predecessor due to improved aerodynamics and reduced weight. Later, the brand added a more fuel-efficient 2.5-liter turbo diesel engine to the lineup. Another key difference was the appearance of traditional door handles on the rear doors, which had been integrated into the rear pillars since the first generation. In 2014, a hybrid version was introduced, combining a 2.5-liter inline-four gasoline engine with a 20-horsepower electric motor. As part of the 2017 facelift, the vehicle underwent minor exterior changes, including the addition of standard LED headlights. The engine lineup also included a new V6 with direct injection, producing 284 horsepower, which replaced the previous V6.

R53 Model

In winter 2021, the manufacturer introduced the fifth-generation model. The vehicle is a deeply updated version of its predecessor, retaining most of the design features while significantly updating the exterior and interior to resemble other mid-size SUVs from the brand. A notable innovation was the replacement of the Jatco continuously variable transmission with a new 9-speed automatic transmission from ZF.
